This may be weird, but my dr didn't even try to find it with the doppler until maybe 16 weeks? It was definitely after the NT scan (I think she would have tried then, except that I had my u/s first and we'd got the HR then so it would have been sort of redundant.)
Last time they couldn't get it at 9 weeks but they did an u/s anyway. This time they didn't even try at the first appointment just went straight to u/s.
First pregnancy, 12 weeks (it was my second appointment after my 8 week apt).
This time, they didn't check with the Doppler until my 16 week appointment because I had ultrasounds for various reasons at all prior appointments. I have an anterior placenta, so even now (36 weeks) the midwife will frequently get the cord pulse and not the heart.
12 weeks, and that was the first time they tried (appointment at ~9 weeks was just info and labs). They listened for it twice at that appointment (H was there but the first time they were doing the internal exam, haha). First time they found it within a second or two, second time it took a few extra seconds. Only problem we've had was at the ER at about 15 weeks. It took them a while, but the equipment they have isn't as good and they weren't as experienced.
ETA: I also have an anterior placenta and am a little surprised they had found it so easily!
They tried at 9 or 10 wks (I've had so many damn appts I can't keep track anymore!) and to everyone's surprise they found it immediately. I realize this is NOT the norm....just got lucky.
Hmmm. Ok so sort of just depends. Thanks for sharing!
I saw the HB at an US at 6 weeks, but I had a loss at 10 weeks back in Feb, so I'm just anxious I guess. Although the USs last time were not promising, whereas this one was totally normal.
My doc found it at 9 weeks 3 days but I think that was pure luck..I have a posterior placenta so I'm sure that helped. She only looked because I went in after an episode of bleeding - otherwise I don't think she would have tried until 12 weeks or after.
spankswife - Does your OB have a portable machine in their office or do they have to send you out for an U/S? I told my OB how nervous I was around my loss milestone last time and they did a quick check on their own machine for my sanity. I was so glad I asked just for the peace of mind. Maybe you could do this as well? I'm sure they would understand the nerves that accompany their patients PGAL.

That's a thought but I think their tech is at the other location on Fridays. I guess I could drive over there if need be, it's just further in the opposite direction.
I had my viability US around that time and then they couldn't find it at 14w. They told me that the end of first tri can be the hardest time to catch baby on the Doppler. They just did a quick US to check the heartbeat so I was okay with getting to see the peanut for a second
16 weeks? Before that we would just see it on the ultrasound. She finds it every time I go in now, but it takes a second because of the anterior placenta. I found it myself on a home Doppler around 10 weeks, which was a miracle considering the placenta.
My Dr. didn't use the doppler until 16 weeks, and then couldn't pick up the heartbeat because baby was moving too much! Ever since then it's been easy to find though.
