I had been waiting for The Edge of Normal to come out (it was released yesterday). I don't know much about the author (Carla Norton), but the synopsis interested me, so I think I'm going to download it tonight and begin reading. It takes me, like, 3 months to get through a book during the school year though
I really want to read This Is Where I Leave You; let me know how you like it!
I'm about half way through. I like it, but don't love it. It will probably end up with 3 of 5 stars from me. It is more downtrodden than I thought it would be (not that I can't deal with downtrodden -- just wasn't expecting it).
I am reading Great Hurricane: 1938 about the Hurricane of '38 (obviously).
I work in a town that was VERY directly affected by that hurricane. We have a lot of primary source material on it. If you are interested in more after you're done, PM me. I could send you more plus photos!

I just finished Michelle Moran's Egypt trilogy (Nefertiti, The Heretic Queen, and Cleopatra's Daughter). They were absolutely fantastic. I wish there were more in the series.

We have a family house on the Cape. Growing up, there was a room that was always locked off because it was badly damaged in the hurricane and never got repaired. If you think your H was bad at repairs, it stayed that way for 50 years! The crazy part is that this house faces away from the ocean, so the storm must have been horrific.

It really was. There were parts of the shoreline that were completely washed away, including all of the houses. It permanently changed the coast of RI and probably CT as well. I don't know as much about what happened in CT. Apparently it came up really quickly and caught everyone off guard. Plus of course in 1938 it wasn't like people had the Internet or TV to catch a warning anyway. So people were out picnicking, for example, and didn't have time to get home. It was a crazy storm with a lot of tragedies.
There was a History Channel documentary a few years ago that was really good.
I loved This is Where I Leave You. I loved the characters so, so much, I have high hopes for the movie.
I actually liked it so much I have now read every one of his books and enjoyed them all. The last one I'm reading, How to Talk to a Widower, has some very insightful passages about internal grief struggle anyone has that loses someone very close to them. I've never been in such a position, but it really opens your eyes as to how hard it is to "move on" and why.
