Yum....well to the first set of pictures. Hey, meant to ask...any favorite restaurants in London?
I'll c&p from lists my friend (who lived in London) and my brother (who went recently with friends who visit often) sent to me:
From my friend:
Borough Market (@ London Bridge - Saturdays from 10AM - 4PM; also open Fridays too but limited vendors) Definitely check this out. One of oldest farmers markets in the world. Meats and produce as well as hot foods. Recommend the raclette cheese sandwich (there's one specific stand that sells raclette potatoes and sandwiches), ostrich burger (tucked away in one of the areas), and the chorizo sandwich from Brindisa (right outside their store opposite Monmouth Coffee on Stoney St - this last one is a MUST). Upscale dining St. John (Smithfield) Viajante (Bethnal Green) Bar Boloud (Knightsbridge) Dinner (Knightsbridge) (Heston Blumenthal - chef/owner of Fat Duck) Hakkasan (Upscale Chinese - good place for a drink too) (Tottenham Court) Zuma (Japanese/Robata grill) (Knightsbridge) Roka (Japanese/Robata grill) (Charlotte St) - a little less pricey than Zuma
Casual dining Barrafina (Tapas) (Soho) Punjab (Indian) (Covent Garden) Tayyab's (Pakistani) (Whitechapel) The Oak (Pizza) (Westbourne Grove) Great Queen Street (Bistro) (Covent Garden) Scarsdale Gastropub (Kensington) Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecôte (Marylebone) Providores (Spanish/Brunch) (Marylebone) Ottolenghi (Italian) (Notting Hill) Pantechnicon (Gastropub - posh) (Knightsbridge) Kazan (Turkish) (Victoria) Polpo (Soho) (Italian)
Brunch The Electric Brasserie (Brunch) (Notting Hill) Tom's Kitchen (Brunch) (Chelsea) Pearl Liang (Dimsum) (Paddington)
Bars Sanderson Hotel Long Bar Nobu Berkeley (bar) Shoreditch House Beach Blanket Babylon (Notting Hill or Shoreditch) LoungeLover (Shoreditch) Eclipse (South Kensington or Fulham) Lab (Soho) Harlem (Notting Hill) Brinkley's (Chelse) Sketch (Bar)
Pubs The Westbourne (Westbourne Grove) The Cow (Westbourne Grove) Thomas Cubitt (Belgravia - my local and favourite pub) Hollywood Arms (Chelsea)
Casual Eats Helen's (Edgeware Road - get lamb kebab with garlic & chili sauces) Pilpel Falafel (Spitalfields/Liverpool St) Nordic Bakery (Soho - Golden Square)
From my brother: The Ledbury in Notting Hill. Best meal we had.
Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. Might be hard to get reservation here.
Masters Superfish for fish and chips. 191 Waterloo Rd and gray st. South on Waterloo. Another fish and chips place: Geales.
Dinner at Tayyabs in Whitechapel. Dry meat curry is the thing to get.
Mela on Shaftesbury. Good Indian.
Quilon near Buckingham Palace for dinner. Keralan cuisine.
Ranoush Juice. This is a hole in the wall shwarma place near Marble Arch that Rashida and Aziz enjoy.
Yum....well to the first set of pictures. Hey, meant to ask...any favorite restaurants in London?
Oh, and I personally ate at Harwood Arms, St. John, Helen's, and Masters Superfish (was only there a couple days). All great, especially Harwood Arms. Highly highly recommend Harwood Arms!
Thanks so much! Thomas Cubitt is one of my favorites and it's close. Next time you are in town, try The Orange. It's also in Belgravia.
Oh, wait. Do you live there?
I feel rather silly now.
Yup. But I'm awful at exploring restaurants and I knew you would have an awesome list. Let me know the next time you are over. Tagging RockNVoll for informational purposes.

Someone at my university recently published a monograph about the problems in translating Chinese menus. For half a second I wanted to read it, but I decided I'll just keep being entertained by the menus themselves instead.
