I went to a knitting circle at my LYS today. Usually they ask everyone at the table what they're working on, and ooh and ahh over something or another. I was working on 1) a novelty blanket (it looks like cooked bacon) 2) with acrylic I bought at Michaels and 3) had a crochet hook in my hand. Not a single person asked what I was making. Guess I should take my knitting and handspun wool next time
And the LYS that we had around here (before it closed) was all about knitting and the owner wouldn't showcase anything crocheted. It kind of bothered me, but the lady who normally worked the counter was always nice and helpful to me, so I didn't mind as much.
I called out one lady and she totally backpedaled. She should have owned it, dammit.
At my old LYS we had our "token crocheter" and we loved her. Another gal hated crochet, and hated cotton yarn, but at least she owned it and we knew where she stood. We still tease her about it.
Bacon blanket?! I will hunt you down if you don't PIP that.
Snobby knitters are so funny- I think the two crafts go so well together! I confess to being a fiber snob, but, I totally admit that acrylic has it's place- and a funny baby blanket sure is it! Don't let them slow you down!
I'm too cheap to be a yarn snob. I kind of feel bad for my two LYSs when I go in. I'll likely never buy from either because I save the good scratch for fabric, but I like going in now and then and feeling everything up.
