Do you live in or near a college town? Lots of universities are having career fairs right now and some will have specialized fairs (engineering, business, etc.) that you could go to and get a feel for your options.
I have a BBA in finance and went the corporate finance route. Financial analysts at Fortune 500 companies make a decent amount of money, would you want to do something like that?
I just left a company where I was a financial analyst for 7 years to take a role as a finance manager at another company, feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
No real advice, but just make sure it's something you find interesting. I recently switched roles at my company and I'm trying to find a way to go back without completely tanking my career.
Don't think about it strictly in terms of experience, critically assess the competencies you've developed in the customer service roles. Personal interaction and relationship building? Business analysis? I'm Positive that with your education and competencies you can move into a role you find more rewarding.
I think you'll need to start by applying to entry level positions in other areas of Finance, to gain experience. The pay will probably be about the same as you make now. Then, you can work your way up.
letsgetweird, I will PM you tonight with some more details of the roles I held as well as some suggestions of different types of positions I think you could qualify for.
Have you thought about getting your CFP? I also hold a Series 7 and after 8 years at the same brokerage firm I'm doing all the grunt work for the Financial Advisors who make all the $$. It's something I am thinking about pursuing.
