BackStory: I hate our "local" Sears. The people that run it our giant douches, they never have anything on and on. I hate Sears as a chain ever since my fridge and 34246 like it melted and never was recalled. Not to mention they never have any in stock parts, takes 3 weeks to schedule service etc etc. etc.
I do love my oven and the element went out last night. It's like a $22.00 part and takes 5 minutes to fix with a screwdriver. NBD.
So I call small town repair guy to see. He's on vacation. I call Sears they of course have no parts, take 2 weeks to get and 2plus more for a repairman (Umm...WTF. I can order it off the website faster which I did last time but I need it now. Also, I don't need a repairman). When I said thanks but no thanks I get a spiel about "Kenmore is a Sears exclusive there are no parts are repair people anywhere. We are your ONLY option.
So I call the other small chain and the guy says, "Model number please?" I rattle it off he says, "Frigidaire makes that brand and 100 like it. Your element is super common. Stop by and get one."
LOL.
I'm on my way now. And it's right by Target..so fun times!
I don't think anyone likes Sears. Their days are numbered imo.
Oh I know. And agree. I just bothered in the hopes I'd maybe get lucky. It's just the whole shady lie thing that gets to me. I mean a "We don't stock that" would have sufficed. I've come to expect it though.
We only have Sears because the appliances from our builder were Sears "sponosored" so if we wanted to put our appliance money toward anything it had to be Sears. Otherwise I'd have picked something else.
I'd call Sears back and tell them what the local place told you, and how common it is to get the part regardless of it being a "Sears exclusive". I'm a B like that. They need to quit scamming people. I agree that their days are numbered.

sears was here to fix our washing machine yesterday...fortunately it only took a day to schedule an appointment and they fixed the machine in 20 minutes. i was shocked. i even went to the laundromat yesterday morning thinking it would be 2-3 weeks before i had a working washing machine again!!!

See my parents have Sears and it's been awesome to them.
The one here is just...I don't know...odd and obnoxious.

I would...but I just don't care that much at this point. I can yell all I want..they won't care, so I'll just take my money to people that do..kwim?

That's funny. When I bought my Kenmore washer, the salesman at Sears used the fact that it was made by Whirlpool his primary selling point. "It may have our tag on it" he said "but it's really a much more expensive Whirlpool model on the inside."
I have such FOND memories of Sears when I was a kid! It breaks my heart how sucky they've become. The only thing good there now it seems are the Craftsman tools.

i had a terrible experience with my dishwasher repair (weeks to show up and then wait another week to order parts and another 5 hour time frame to come put in new parts...only for machine to have same exact problem a few weeks after that)...sears still sucks, i just got lucky with my washer!!!
That sucks. Our Sears is really good, I've had great experiences there. It's really nice, too, but it doesn't carry clothes or any of that stuff. It's just a hardware/appliance store.
my dad was a repair man for sears for a year or so. he HATED that job. it was just as miserable on the inside, but he also had to take the flack from unhappy customers. he took a lower paying job just to get out of there while he kept looking for something better.
I actually liked our local Sears, but I was super excited to see it replaced with a Nordstrom this year. Especially since the Sears around here don't have Lands End counters anymore.

I'm coming out of perpetual lurk-dom just for this post, ha!
My dad used to work at Sears back when they had repair centers locally. He was one of the top repairmen in the nation, had been there for 25+ years. He had a recall rate of zero for several years running, which means that zero of the items that he worked on came back for repair for a second time. Sears laid him off. The reason that they cited? His recall rate did not improve for 2 years in a row.

I am happy for the post simply because you came out of hiding! Hi. HI. HI!
Sorry about your Dad though. That does sound very...Sears-like though.
