We went grocery shopping yesterday evening and I completely forgot to put away the carton of eggs.
So they sat over night on the counter. It wasn't ungodly hot in the house but it wasn't A/C either.
They came from the display case to the counter. So no egg sweat. I know they say not to leave eggs out for longer then an hour or two if they've come from the fridge where they are likely to sweat if left out.
So, would you use them?
Or should I do the float test and presume if they sink, they're fine?
Wait, they weren't refrigerated in the store? If they were from a farmers market or something and were unrefrigerated, they are probably fine. U.S. egg processing washes away the protective coating, which is why they are supposed to remain refrigerated.
They were in a cool case, like where you find your butter and sour cream. Places where they keep yogurt and such too.
I was trying to say they were cool enough from the store but they didn't sweat. So they weren't as cold as what they are in the fridge, since eggs sweat when taken out of the fridge.
I did the float test though and it sank like a rock.
