We're doing our first cycle of IUI this month and my doctor never said anything about abstaining beforehand. I've read different takes of it online (no less than 2 days but no more than 5 days; 24-36 hours...). Those that have done it, what was your experience? I'm going to call her office today, but thought I'd see what others had been told.

Your doctor should be giving you an exact schedule of when to abstain and when you need to have intercourse after your IUI as backup.
I believe ours was a minimum of 48 hours, preferably no longer than 72 hours. All IUI's in my RE's office are done the same time of day, so the directions we were given were down to the hour.

We had ours on a Sunday morning. We were told we could have sex on Friday night but not again till after the IUI. The answer may change if there are any sperm count issues.
DH has low morphology... Everything else is normal. Waiting to hear back from doctor's office still. I figure it would be 36 hours anyway since I've been testing around 3 or 4pm and we're not having sex in the mornings. Obviously if I get a positive OPK, we wouldn't have sex that night. Just not sure if they prefer it to be longer.
And I also don't know exactly when I'll be ovulating. This is my first cycle on Clomid, so I have no idea how that is going to effect O day. Trying to time longer than 36 hours seems like it'll be tough.
do you not have some kind of monitoring appointment pre-O to see how many follicles you have or what size? that should give you some idea of when you'll O. are you doing a trigger shot?
fwiw, we've abstained as short as 2 days and as long as 5 days, per doctor's orders. it didn't make a damn bit of difference for us in terms of count or motility. morphology is morphology... it's just how they're made.

IUIs should never, ever be timed with OPKs, nor should OPKs ever be used with any kind of fertility medication, including Clomid. You need to be having monitoring ultrasounds.
36 hours should be super duper simple, but since your doctor is taking chances and not monitoring you properly, it will be more difficult.
