I bought myself some runners. Actual runners from a running store. I also got some good tips on how I'm running.
When I went into the store they looked at my old runners and then they had me roll up my pants and walk around the store while the lady stared at my feet/ankles/knees. (That was so weird, lol.) She told me that when I walk my knees come together, so I need more support for my arches. (She had a fancy word for it but I can't remember.) I also need to take some smaller strides when I run, she said that long strides might be what is causing my back pain when I run. (But it also could just be the shoes, so I should watch how things are when I run.)
Hopefully these shoes will help me run without feeling so sore.
It's so cool that she can see what you need based on your Feet and shoes. I wonder if I could find a place like that. I've yet to own a comfortable pair of running/walking shoes.
The H&F board gave me some pointers on finding a good place that is good at matching you with shoes. (Don't go to a brand store, as that brand may not be for you, don't just go to a sports store with running shoes. Find a specialized store, that is for runners. Make sure that they have a return policy of you don't like the shoes.)
I went for a short jog to see how they work and so far so good.

We have a bunch around here! You could try Dick Pond Athletics...I know there are a few locations in the burbs. They have you run on a treadmill and they record your gait so you can watch it on a screen and see what you need.
Yay! So glad you got a pair of shoes that are working for you! Hope this solves some of your running issues and you can enjoy many, many miles in them!
jjwritergirl- All of what awick14 said. Go to a specialty running store...they are all trained to analyze your gait and foot strike and will be able to find the perfect fit for you!
luv2rn4fun- I tried on 10-25 shoes and the only ones that I found comfortable were the ones I bought. So they have to work out. (I have wide feet and a lot of the shoes narrowed too much at the toes.)
