I plan on getting braces next month and I have two options to consider. 1) Invisalign- more expensive, longer time frame (about 1.5 years) but of course clear and I don't have braces for my 10 year reunion and other important functions this year.
2) "clear" traditional braces- clear brackets with a thin silver wire. Less expensive, less time (about 9-10 months) but it's still visible.
Has anyone had to make this decision? I wish I would've done this 6 month ago because I do have some functions coming up in the next few months that I don't want braces for. I know that's dumb, but I just want to feel confident through these things and not like a 15 year old again. I've had traditional braces, so the cleaning part doesn't bug me. I do worry about being on top of putting in the invisalign regularly.

I'd probably do traditional braces and be done with it all sooner. I assume you've had a consult with the ortho, so you probably know this, but Invisalign isn't a realistic option for people who need more than a very slight correction.
I did Invisalign at 26, so 10 years ago, it was ok but I would not do it again. I still needed regular braces at the end for about 2 months for some fine tuning, and my teeth were not that bad to begin with. It cost a LOT, and they have to put these little nubs on your teeth for the trays to grip onto and when the treatment is done, they file them off- I can still tell where they were, it's just a slightly different texture and it bothers me
My sister got clear traditional braces as an adult and had them on for 11 months. She had a severe overbite and it is vastly improved. Now she has a very slight overbite, but it's barely visible. After the braces, she had to wear a retainer continuously for 6 months. Now she only has to wear the retainer when sleeping. After two years, her teeth haven't shifted. She chose these braces because they were cheaper and she didn't mind them showing.

I'm also trying to make this decision right now. I'm worried that the invisalign will fill up with saliva like a mouth guard or something. I'll probably end up flipping a coin when it comes down to it. Lol

Yup, already had the consult. My teeth aren't in terrible shape and it's mostly for cosmetic reasons.

I'm worried that I'd take them out and forget to put them back in or something.
I hear it could help cut down on the snacking and drinking, though. lol. New diet plan?
My H wasn't a candidate for Invisalign so he had to do braces. But he was in them for less than a year and it really wasn't a big deal. He had clear brackets on top and metal on the bottom. He is so happy with the results (so am I).
I LOVED my invisalign. I was bad about wearing my retainer for a month or so and had some shifting. But, I was able to go back and use my aligners to get them back into place so my retainer would fit. I liked having the ability to floss too and no discoloration from the brackets and stuff that you sometimes see.

I had clear regular braces for just under two years and now have a retainer that's like the Invisalign. Hands down the regular braces were easier, mostly because it forced me to be compliant. Plus being done faster was hugely beneficial. Most people didn't notice when they came off because they weren't noticeable on.

I had Invisalign and was a pretty complicated case. It took a full year but I am so (SO!) happy with the results.
When I compared my first tray to my last the difference was huge. I loved being able to pop them out for eating and for sex. Lol. I would highly recommend it.
I'm considering doing the clear braces. Cost and speed are the biggest factors for me.
If you're concerned about big events & it's just cosmetic, why not postpone getting them put on? It wouldn't bother me to have them on, but if it bothers you, what's waiting a few more months?
I've had Invisaligns for three and a half freaking years! Still in them. Was suppposed to be 1.5 to 2 years.
I wouldn't ever do them again. Never ever ever. DH was in his for three years.
Get the regular braces and be done with it.
I am going to light my 9000 pairs of Invisaligns on fire if I ever get done and melt them in a a giant ball. I hate them so much.
Plus you have to be really strict about wearing them all the time and end up having to brush your teeth in the most random places and it grosses me out.
Yes. I had both options as an adult. I went to two different orthodontists for their opinions and clear braces was best for me. I had braces as a child and never wore my retainers. To fix my teeth again they both suggested the real braces again. Plus, they were cheaper.
I was embarrassed to have them at first, but they weren't bad at all.
Go with whatever will give you the best results in the end. Good luck!
Invisalign seems so annoying and a hassle. My dad has it right now and seems happy with it. My ex got braces as an adult and had the traditional ones and even had them on our wedding day. He didn't mind.
If I had to get braces again I'd choose traditional braces as they seem like much less hassle.
