I booked our September trip to GA thru Southwest and they cancelled our departing flight at about 3am the morning of our flight (8am departure). When I checked in online the night before and got an upper A number, I had a feeling the flight was nowhere near full and it crossed my mind they would cancel it. Well sure enough I check my email a little before 6am and they cancelled our tickets but didn't book us on the next available flight. I called and the only NS flight that brought us in before 5:30pm was an earlier flight (7am). I thought chances were slim we would make that but I did not want to waste an entire day since we still had a 3hr to drive to Savannah once we landed. I took it and half asleep, we practically flew out the door since we live about 40 min from the airport. We barely made the flight but they put us in the TSA pre-check line and we went thru security really fast.
I asked for compensation for the hassle and the rep booking the new flight said I needed to call customer relations. Well I forgot about it until today (its been over a month) and just called to see what they would do for us. We are each receiving a $75 voucher!! I was really expecting them to offer like $25 so I'm happy with that. If I had lost a whole day, I probably would've thrown a fit to be refund for the whole ticket but since I was able to make the flight and I ended up getting there earlier, I wasn't upset about our cancelled flight. I only paid $99 for the flight to begin with so $75 was pretty close to the full fare anyway.
*** And thanks to everyone for the Savannah recommendations before. We ended up staying at the Kimpton property The Brice and loved it. The location was awesome, very close to the river. I thought that location was way better than the Mansion on Forsyth Park, one of our other options. The weather was very sunny, hot and humid so we drove to Tybee Island to hang out at the beach. The Brice gave us complimentary beach towels, chairs and a cooler bag to use. On Tybee we drove to the south beach first, got a few drinks and walked the pier. Then we went to North Beach Grill, had a delicious lunch and hung out on the north beach. We bought beers for the beach and they packed us a bag with ice which was a nice touch.
There were so many recommendations to eat at Alligator Soul, we planned my birthday dinner there. It was nothing short of amazing. Best steak I've had in a long time, even better than my fav rib-eye at Gibsons here. And compared to Gibsons price, I thought AS was reasonably price. We also ate at The Pirate House which was a bit touristy but both of us enjoyed the experience and had great meals. Our waiter recommended the cucumber mojito which was really good. We went to B Mathews for breakfast and that was also good. We really didn't have a bad meal the whole week. The only thing I regret was purchasing the On/Off trolley ride. I really only wanted it to get to Forsyth Park and hear a little history and then we planned to get off there and walk back to our hotel. Traffic was horrible and we had 2 really annoying ladies in back of us. I wish we would've just hired a pedi-cab for probably half the price.
I absolutely loved Savannah and cant wait to go back. I love how you are in this great little walking town, you can walk around all morning and then be at a beach in less than 30 min, hang out for a couple hours and then be back in Savannah for dinner. I thought I really liked NOLA but I liked Savannah even better.
