Here is the current state our our room. I decluttered and rearranged a little bit today, but it's still so blah. I took everything off the walls to start fresh.
What does it need?! Any changes to the arrangement? What sort of wall decor? And where?
Quirk: wooden cornice box was already over windows but previous owners never installed treatments (wood blinds in other rooms with same cornices). Not ready to spend$ on prof blinds, but maybe a tension rod and curtains?
I would definitely add curtains. Maybe some new lamps and add bedside lamps. A pretty pillow on the chair. Does the bedding go with the wall color? I can't tell. If not, I would change it out. Some artwork by the bed and the double doors. Add a small side table by the chair.
I agree you could do some really nice vignettes on those bedside tables. I've seen some lovely ones involving mirrors and lamps. If you go to houzz and search for "nightstand vignettes" there are some pretty ones you could use for inspiration.
Is it bad that I didn't know what a nightstand vignette was till now? Thanks for the suggestion! I could definitely do something like that.

Those windows are great. I'd definitely add curtains or blinds (or both) to highlight them and add privacy. You can get nice looking inexpensive white faux wood blinds at Home Depot. They'll cut them to size, so while not custom, they will be fit to your windows.
Same the PP's I'd add lamps on the side table. I think you have a really nice base space, but just need to add some texture and color with artwork, maybe some baskets for storage, throw pillow on the chair, or some plants.
It also feels like the scale of the corner lamps is a little off, although any floor lamp would probably be the same. Can you swap out the shades? What about wall sconces instead?
The floor lamps are from my post-college living-on-my-own days and definitely don't have to stay. We're just putting them to use. They were placed at the other side of the room for a few years, but it felt so "heavy" over there, so I moved them. I agree they're out of place though.
I LOVE the idea of adding bedside lamps/vignettes. I'll look for cool mirrors, and repurpose some decor from other rooms in the house. Our girls have lamps in their rooms and I'm going to bring them over to try it out (do you think purple giraffe would go with our motif? LOL).
The wall color is going to change in the near future. I'm leaning toward something bold, like an olive green, or dark turquoise/teal. Although I have a comforter set with deep burgundy and gold that I really like, so I might go with something to match that.
We swap our bedding out a couple times a year (this is our summer/non-down set, but I definitely want to get matching pillows to "fluff" the bed up a bit. It's so drab).
I threw a blanket over the side of the armchair for now and it really helped. I am on the lookout for a good pillow - great idea!
I'm also thinking I might get a tufted/textured cushion for on top of the chest at the foot of our bed. I love the piece because it's antique (from DH's parents), but the color isn't quite right, and it's a bit more rustic than the rest of the room. I think a pillow top will soften that up.
The windows - my current mission. DH is leaning toward blinds because that's what we have in the other bedrooms. I'm leaning drapes because I like the coziness and warmth they provide (and texture). Hope to get something, anything!, up this fall.
Looky!! I just got these 4 light-filtering panels plus a cheapy curtain rod for a grand total of $34!! They have an unexpected purple glow hung up - but they're not at all purple. I'm going to decorate the rest of the room around these, so new bedding and decor to come later.
