We got up at 4am for our flight which is now departing over an hour late. I slept 3.5 hours. PSA: fireball and that apple cider beer are good in theory but not for early morning flight departures . I am too old for this shit.
HA. Yeah, I can't drink like I used to anymore. More than a couple glasses of wine and I won't be able to sleep all night.
Hey, did you ever update about your friend's diagnosis?
I just spent the weekend with her and several friends. She will have to have a full hysterectomy. The fibroid is the size of a baby's head . Surgery scheduled a month from today. Not sure if it's cancerous. Also getting a second opinion. The fast growing nature of it, is the super scary part. Thanks for asking.

Make sure she does NOT do a laparoscopic hysterectomy. Back in April, the FDA came out and said stop doing them for fibroids bc the chopping up process could release cancer cells (in the small percent of fibroids that are cancerous). Even though its a really small chance that a fibroid is cancer (in general), if it is and you chop it up while inside, really bad things happen. Some doctors are still doing them though. www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm393689.htm

No they won't even give her the option but I will still mention it. How are you ruby?

How old is she? She has kids, right? I'll be thinking about her (and you). How are you holding up? You know, other than the boozy night and an early, delayed flight.

well, on top of my fibroids and cysts (which I couldn't get a sooner appointment for), I just opened* the mammogram letter that says I need more follow up. Blech. H and I are going apple picking to distract
* yeah, I was opening the mail Sunday AM. We had houseguests most of the weekend.

I hope you had a good weekend and Sunday at the orchard! I hope it all turns out as positive as possible. I will be thinking of you too.

No, she doesn't have kids. She's 46 and has spent most of her career on cruise ships. She has long declared herself a "not a breeder" so that part isn't so devastating. But she and my other best friend, we were all together this weekend. Other BF's sister just lost a battle to Uterine cancer-very rare, but we are all pretty freaked out.
My mom was sick yesterday (on-going small bowel obstruction) and then the head of the in-home agency called to say that FIL isn't doing well either. She's worried he is developing pneumonia. He has been to the walk-in twice over the weekend and is going to his regular doctor this week. FIL called screaming at Mr. Pom on Thursday, right after we got off the plane. He wanted his guns and checkbook back. Ugh. My step dad, who had a stroke, also lost his driving license on Friday. He called me and was upset that I wasn't more sympathetic. It's been kind of rough, but overall, we still had a great weekend with friends. Oh and our rental car was a 2015 Mustang and we had a blast with that.
Sounds like you really needed a weekend away. Mustang rentals are a ton of fun
Funny story, I booked the rental back in July on Hotwire for a premium car, 3 days $114. It was cheaper than the compact option, so I said WTH. We get to National and they tell us just go pick something off the premium row for Alamo or National. I waited with the luggage and sent Mr. Pom to go get a car. Then I see a Mustang....I KNEW as soon as I saw it on the lot, that's what he'd come back with and sure enough. 26 miles on it. He had one in his 20's and mentions them often. But yesterday, after we picked up his company truck, I said, "So, do you still want a Mustang?" Mr. Pom immediately agrees that comfort and "free" are certainly more of a priority than flashy and fun. My husband has apparently passed his midlife crisis. Instead he wants a decked out golf cart to take to the beach and Up North. Thankfully, that will be cheaper than a Shelby, LOL.
