I got highlights mostly on the bottom and some face framing. I have naturally dark brown and wanted caramel highlights. After she did my hair it looked good that night and next day my hair was orange where she did the highlights. When I went back to the salon she applied color directly to each highlighted piece instead of the whole head with toner. The color looked alot better and more natural. That was thursday, now today I feel like slowly its turning that orange color again. What is going ? I know my hair pulls red tones but whats happening? And what can I do ?
My hair pulls red too when I get blonde highlights. Currently my hair is uncolored, but this is what we do when I do want highlights.
My stylist puts a little more ash in my highlights than for the color I want (but not too much, because ashy blonde does not look good with my skin tone) to account for the brassiness. I also wash with a purple shampoo about once a week, or every 2-3 shampoos. Your stylist probably just put a semi permanent color on your hair, thinking it would fade and correct the color, but you need a toner. I'd go back and ask again, our even change stylists. Your hair should not be brassy so soon.
Also, what shampoo are you using? And do you have hard water, or rust in your water? Those can affect your color.

What does purple shampoo do? I believe it was bleach she used? It was blue. She used semi permanent color that day, but when I went back last week she used permanent color for the actual highlights. Do I need more toner? Ugh. The placement looks awesome thats not the problem its the color. If I go back this will be the third time....that cant be normal.

Purple shampoo helps to tone down brassiness in bleached/light blonde hair, to help keep it from getting orange. It sounds like she did not initially use the correct blend of bleach to color initially? jolita should be able to provide some insight. I know there are other colorists who lurk here too that could help identify what may be wrong more specifically with your color.
It sounds like maybe she didn't initially lighten the highlights enough to pull it out of the orange stage. A blue based toner should help to knock out the orange, but if it doesn't, you may need those pieces to be lightened more, and toned again. Good luck!
