If your neighbor's tree has branches that hang over your yard, would you expect them to rake the leaves that fall in your yard?
Out neighbor behind us pushed all the leaves in their yard under the fence into our yard. The tree is on our property. At our old house, everyone just raked the leaves in their yard, regardless of where they came from, so this is weird to us.
LOL wow. That is odd! We all have trees in our yards and rake the leaves in our yards regardless of where they came from. On windy days like today, it is nearly impossible to prevent leaves blowing from one yard to another.
While I wouldn't expect my neighbor to rake their tree leaves that fall into my yard I would expect them to trim the branches so the leaves don't come over into my yard. Maybe it's their passive-aggressive way of telling you to trim your tree.

Well, no one around here really rakes leaves - we all have wooded lots, BUT your neighbor sounds ridiculous. If I were in a neighborhood where leaf raking was the norm, I would just rake the leaves in my yard.

I've been wondering about this, now that you mention it. We just bought our home a few months ago, and our neighborhood is full of mature trees. We have one large tree that drapes over our back fence into our neighbors yard a bit, but they have branches that drape over our yard, and there vines have covered our back fence (which I actually love).
So, if we both have branches in each other's yards, are we cancelled out? We would have to get on the garage of their roof to trim ours.

Well, the tree was there long before our house was, and it's quite large. "Trimming" would mean chopping off half the tree! Before our house was built, they used what is our lot as their own yard. They have a clothesline attached to this tree. When the house was built, they seemed very cool about "losing" the land, and we never asked them to remove the clothesline. They hang stuff on it, but never over our yard and it's not in our way.

I was picturing a smaller tree so while you can trim a large tree it won't prevent leaves from coming to their yard. I think it's weird that they moved the leaves to your yard but maybe you should just ask them "Hey I noticed you did this...what's up?"
In our neighborhood, we rake all of the leaves in our yards regardless of whose trees they came from. We have a lot of mature hardwoods, you really can't tell. I'd rake them.
