This weekend, I attended the wedding of one of my cousins. One of the bridesmaids was very obviously pregnant and, from the looks of her, pretty far along. During the time between the ceremony and the receptions, I remarked to Ian that it must be tough to be a pregnant bridesmaid since you have to order the dress so far in advance. Plus, there are usually multiple fittings, all during a time when you're going to be getting bigger and not know exactly how big you'll be or how the weight will be distributed come the time of the wedding.
Later, at the reception when the bridal party did the grand entrance, the pregnant bridesmaid was not there because she had gone to the hospital. As it turns out, she had been in labor and dilated 6 cm at the time of the wedding ceremony. She made it through that and a lot of post-ceremony pictures and finally went to the hospital when her contractions were about 2 minutes apart!
Anyhow, it makes a good story, and I had the thought that she can look back at those wedding pictures with her daughter and say, "You were literally being born when this picture was taken!"

Whoa! I admire her dedication to her wedding-party obligations! Hopefully she wasn't traveling far from her regular doctors, I bet that is a story she'll be telling for years.
I had 2 pregnant bridesmaids so I definitely had to pick out dresses that weren't fitted and allowed for growth, but luckily the farthest along was a 6-month-pregnant bridesmaid so I didn't worry too much about a labor situation. She certainly is a trooper for even standing for the ceremony when she was already beginning to dilate!
