I know you don't work in a clinic, but if I'm going to get a massage for medical reasons, and they bill my insurance, do you still tip the therapist? I have an appointment next week, and I don't know what to do. I know the clinic bills my insurance a pretty absurd amount for the service (like, $200 when if I were just going to get a massage it would be closer to $70), but I have no idea what the therapist him/herself gets paid.

I don't tip my esthetician who only does electrolysis and other medical stuff and works in a doctors office. On the advice of a friend who does the same job. She told me the pay is not tip based.

I've never really known the answer to this, either. I go once a month for a massage that gets billed to my insurance and I've never tipped. I see it as a medical issue and I wouldn't tip for physio or anything else like that.
