I was putting away bottles the other night and noticed that a pack of sippy cups we got as a shower gift said "4+ months". G is 4 months. Am I supposed to be introducing this now?
It seems kind of early, I think? He's just now getting good control of his hands. He's pretty good at reaching and grasping, but does still miss sometimes. Also, when he grabs things it's still the baby death grip and his aim/sense of space is pretty unreliable. He shook a rattle the other day and bonked himself in the head.
We started offering water when we started offering solids, so around six months. Actually drinking from a cup took a few months, but we kept offering it. Straw cups were easier for my kids than spout-type sippies. I think we started with Playtex straw cups and moved to Munchkin ones later.
We introduced a sippy of water with food at about 6 months. She never actually had any (water or real food) closer to 7 months though. Just wasn't interested at first. I wouldn't worry about it at 4 month!
I started putting a small amount of breast milk (like 1-2oz) in a sippy cup at about 5 months. It's the Nuk kind that has the flexible silicone spout (so a bottle with handles). More for motor skills than anything else.

Oh, good question! I was planning to wait for solids, but I don't think I could start now even if I wanted to - L isn't much of a grabber, lol. Though she does like to wrap her hands around the bottle when she's eating!
We started around 6 months when we introduced solids. It took him a little bit to figure it out, but now he does just fine with a sippy and a straw cup.
Four months sounds early to me. We didn't intro a sippy until he was 6 months old and we started solids. We offered an ounce or two of water with his solids at dinner at first so he could practice.
We have done 6 mos with all 3, same time we started solids. J took to it right away and by 7 months was getting one of his "bottles" of pumped milk a day in his sippy. Now at 7 mos K will drink out of it but we have to hold it for her and e barely drinks anything.
