I've now done 1 unmedicated, 3 clomid, and just did first injectable IUI yesterday. Each time, I continued to chart and didn't actually ovulate till a day after the IUI. Is that normal? This cycle, I had a big temp drop this morning and if I "phantom chart" it looks like even if my temps go up from today, FF won't give me crosshairs until tomorrow - 2 days after the IUI.
Do meds affect temping/charting? Or does my body not react to the trigger shot when it should? It sucks to keep having this happen - when I look at other charts on FF, seems like 90% of them had the IUI on O day. Or do I just override FF and make IUI day the O day? But that doesn't seem right either. I'm sick of feeling like we're throwing money away at this each month.

I didn't chart with my IUI I so I'm not sure about what variables might affect your temp. Maybe bring it up to your doc and see what they think? I know some REs will do IUI 2 days in a row (I suppose sperm quality matters there).
I have read that O is usually 36 hours after trigger shot. I also have read that the ideal time for IUI is 6-12 hours of ovulation, but washed sperm can live 24-72 hours. I don't temp but I am worried about the timing of our first IUI this month as well. I had a trigger shot around 4pm on a Tuesday and we did the insemination at 4pm Wednesday, 24 hours later. I didn't have what felt like my normal O symptoms until 12-16 hours later. We also had sex 24 hours after the IUI. I'm hoping that the timing was okay because it's going to suck to go through this again.

Thanks. Yeah I mentioned it to him a month ago and he said that the day before actual O is fine. 2 days seems like it'll be pushing it though. His general opinion is one well-timed IUI is just as good as 2 back-to-back, but I'm wondering if mine haven't really been well-timed.

kellikans, was there a reason your doc had for doing 24 hours after trigger? Maybe you were close to O'ing on your own already? I know what you mean, though, it sucks to think we go through all this just to not really even have a shot still. :/

I think it just varies between doctors. I was also on 100mg of Clomid. Had 2 follicles, 20mm and 23mm day of trigger. If it doesn't work this month, I plan on asking why she prefers 24hrs vs. 36hrs.

Temping is 100% worthless on medicated cycles. My RE told me to throw my thermometer away once we started meds. You are monitored for a reason. That trumps your temps.

Thanks, that is helpful. I've asked my RE about temping while medicated and they just said that even if it shows I O'd a day or 2 later than IUI, it was still fine. But I'm a crazy chart-stalker and it was bothering me. I'll just force FF to give me cross-hairs for the day of IUI.
I agree about temping while on meds. I was ok when I was just on Clomid but when I did injectables it was worthless. Is your doctor monitoring you? That always made me feel better because I knew how big my follicles were and that the trigger shot would probably produce mature eggs.

@king26, yes I'm being monitored. I don't remember the sizes of my follicles right off for this month, though. My last monitoring appt was Friday and they had me trigger Sunday night, so I know they weren't quite there yet. It's helpful to hear that I should just not read into charting now. I think I'll still temp so I can see if/when my temp dips, but not worry about the exact O date.
Ditto the others. Also, remember that sperm can live for up to 5 days. Even if you actually do O the day after IUI, you've still got another 4 days for the sperm and egg (s) to meet. Also, my docs, both the OB and the RE, told us to hump it out the day of and the day after IUI to be on the safe side.
Not that it worked for us, but we have mod-severe MFI.

That is standard protocol for IUI cycles.
no shit, really? I thought I was speshul.
I'm just trying to reassure the gal that even if she O's after her IUIs, she will still get good timing.
