HR there is suuuuuuuch a fucking joke. I think if she wasn't leaving in a week she would have pushed for more of a resolution. I also think since she was leaving in a week HR was like "Eh, fuck it, she'll be gone soon."
Sure, SHE'LL be gone, but do they really want to risk him doing that again to someone else? He's the liability here - their reasoning is a little wonky.

I'm so happy the only time I've worked with a crazy similar to that, HR took it very seriously. I can't believe they just blew it off! Poor thing will probably never want to make new friends now.
Dude, when shit like this happens, people get in fight or flight mode. She ran. Calling the cops after wouldn't do shit. He wasn't yelling at her anymore. It would be her word against his. The girl is not the bad guy here. JFC.

Not only should she have called the police , she probably should have asked them do a check on his wife--just to make sure she isn't already a skin suit.
She worked with me at my last job with crazy ass boss lady. We're friends on FB and she posted about how she just started another job (they're dropping like flies, apparently) so I messaged her with a congrats and she told me the MOST INSANE STORY about a guy on our team. He always seemed like nice guy, a little quirky but funny and sarcastic and popular with everyone and we always got along well. Anyways, after I left the two of them got to be pretty good friends - went to lunch every day, went on walks in the morning to get out of the office for a bit, would sometimes text outside of the office, etc.
So he started bringing her suits that his wife didn't want or wear anymore, but instead of asking her if SHE wanted them he would just leave them in her cubicle. She was like "WTF" but didn't really say anything, and one day she had to leave work unexpectedly and didn't take the suits and apparently he got upset that she left them there (she said she would take them home the next day) and sent her a text about not being ungrateful when people are trying to help her out. She said things were awkward the next day but she tried to act like everything was fine, and when she went to get something for her wedding at lunch (she got married last month) he decided to go with her so they could talk in the car. The car ride was fine until they got to the place, and then he started walking really close behind her and when she told him to stop and walk next to her he started yelling at her like "WHY ARE YOU BEING SUCH A BITCH, WHY ARE YOU SUCH A BITCH" over and over again.
And of course she got freaked out, and told him to call a cab because she wasn't driving him back to work, at which point he went and stood by her car and refused to leave and just kept yelling at her. So she went into the shop and texted him again that he needed to call a cab, he was making her uncomfortable and she wasn't going to take him back to work because he was freaking her out and if he didn't leave she would have somebody escort her out. And then he texted her back and said no, that she was a spoiled brat and he wasn't leaving, then started coming into the building, at which point she made a break for it, got to her car, got in and locked the doors just in time for him to get to the passenger side door and start yanking on the handle and screaming at her again. She said it was like a switch had flipped.
Apparently when she told HR they were just like "Oh, well...sorry about that" and had her work her last week in a cubicle on another floor. I felt SO BAD for her. She's kind of young and I'm sure this has kind of scarred her from making male work friends again. I am SO FUCKING GLAD I DON'T WORK THERE ANYMORE.
"Why would you ruin perfectly good peanuts by adding candy corn? That's like saying hey, I have these awesome nachos, guess I better add some dryer lint." - Nonny
That is crazy and WTF HR? I am glad he didn't harm her physically. That would be a terrifying situation.
We had a guy at my first job who went off the deep end while on a business trip - it turned out he had several mental illnesses and it was like a switch flipped. He didn't get fired, but he was put on LTD and wasn't allowed back at the office.
A junior associate flipped out on me like that. He was mad I made him work all weekend and then didn't use his research in the brief do he called me at home and started screaming about what a bitch I was. He got fired - because he used the term bitch, it was construed as creating a hostile work environment based on sex- and subsequently saw our former boss at the gym, where he also flipped out on him and accused me of ruining his life and my boss of allowing me to do it. Later, after I moved to LA, I learned my new firm was in the same office space as his firm. The first time he saw me there we had a normal, if uncomfortable, conversation for about 2 minutes then he asked me if I was still a fucking bitch. I walked away and reported it, and he got flagged with building security. The next time he saw me he started screaming and calling me a bitch again. I reported that, and he got fired again, thus marking the SECOND time I ruined his life. He is now a sole practicer without an office and I heard he had to move home and live with his parents.
THAT is how a responsible employer handles a situation like this. I didn't even work for the second firm that fired him, just worked in the same building. And he was on leave the same day and fired a week later.
