I am switching to a high deductible healthcare plan this month, and want to reduce my prescription costs as much as I can. I take a birth control pill that still requires a $20 co-pay on my old insurance. However, I know some are free through the Affordable Care Act. Does anyone know which ones are free?
Or should I really just pull the trigger on an IUD? We're 3+ years out from TTC, but for some reason the idea of an IUD scares me...
I think it depends on your actual insurance, not just ACA. Mine is/was free with both Cigna and BSBC. I am on Nuvaring, and I was paying $100/month. It was a VERY pleasant suprise!

The list of covered brands and types vary by your actual insurance provider. For three years it might be worth trying an IUD, but some people have problems with them and require follow up care.
It depends on the brand and which your insurance company places on the list.
I haven't been on the pill in about 10 yrs, but last month took a single month of Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo to help tame my crazy periods. I have amAZing insurance, and still had to pay the full deductible. I was surprised, as it's a popular brand/pill.

I was on that one for a while before TTCing. I was really happy with it, but at $30/mo copay it was not especially economical among BCPs! The "Lo" version is still under patent protection so there isn't a generic equivalent yet.
Thanks ladies. I'll check with my insurance and see which ones are covered. BCP help control my acne, so I'm worried about how an IUDS would play into that. I tried the Depo shot and had non stop periods, and have heard that can be a result of an IUD too and hate to have that happen and then have it removed bc the whole thing sounds painful. Ugh decisions.
