Per LC's recommendation, we both should be taking them to beat the thrush (only I have so far, oops). She said the brand doesn't matter, but when I went to the health food store yesterday, there was nothing specifically for babies. so, I let him suck some of DD's powdered probiotic off my finger last night. (Florastor brand.)
Amazon has some pricey infant-specific ones for sale, but if using one specifically for kids is okay, I'll stick with that. What do you use?
We used BioGaia. It was over the counter, but we had to go up to the pharmacist to get it. It was pretty expensive - $30 for a tiny bottle? I don't know about using the kid ones for infants, so I can't answer that.
ETA: the bottle was tiny but you only needed a couple drops a day so it wasn't that bad.
BioGaia has been rebranded as Gerber Soothe. I used them with DD (both as BioGaia and as Gerber Soothe). She didn't get or finish bottles consistently enough to buy anything to mix into a bottle so these worked much better for us. I bought them at Walgreens in the baby aisle near the gripe water and things like that. You need 5 drops a day and the bottle lasts about a month. I found that putting them on a small baby spoon and sticking that in her mouth was the easiest way to do it, even when she was very young.

I used the biogaia drops. The only downside was that she pooped around 10-12 times a day. Once I stopped it at 5 months, she went down to 1-2 a day. Might be good for constipation though timorousbeastie
I did for thrush. I put powder on my finger & she sucked it off. I never even explored any other options.
But did it matter which powder?Â
Anything that needs to be mixed into a bottle won't work for us because he doesn't take a bottle every day.Â
I looked online for the best recommendations & I think I found it in a refrigerator at Whole Foods. I opened up a capsule & dumped it in bowl daily & let her suck it off my finger. I never put anything in bottles. Sorry, can't remember the specific type/brand.
incogneato - Vesicouretal reflux and hydronephreses.
The abx prevent UTIs. He got a UTI as we were weaning at a year and I nursed him for another month and a half due to the strength of additional abx he needed and to not further test his intestines. (This also delayed his "foods you can intro after a year" schedule)
He's since had surgery.
I love his pedi-uro and Boston Children's.
If any of this applies to you or anyone else, I'll discuss it more in depth via pm.
We used Nature's Way Primadophilus for Children. We didn't buy it off of Amazon, however, and I don't remember how much we paid (it's 11.99 on Amazon). I would add it to a bottle of pumped milk.
Culterelle Kids, use half a pack mixed in her bottles.
Yep this! Pedi ok'd it when I asked a month or so ago (when DS was 6ish months) when he was on antibiotics. After 1 year they can have the whole packet.
I used the Gerber Soothe drops (when it was Biogaia). DS was 3 mo and I was on antibiotics for an extended time for recurrent mastitis. I put it directly on my breast while BFing. He didn't get a bottle everyday so I didn't want to deal with a powder.
We just started gerber soothe last week. It's kinda a pita to drip it on my nipple but I figure it can't hurt.
Try a baby spoon, I found it much simpler. It's such a small amount that I basically just wiped it on her tongue. But my kid has always loved taking any kind of medicine so there's that.

Thanks, I'll try that next time! Do you always do it before a feeding?
