I know I've posted about my step kids mom before how she's a total loon when it comes to the doctor. DH asked SD if she got her flu shot since we all just did and she said "oh my mom doesn't believe in flu shots."
I asked DH if his kids got all their vaccinations and he said yes. Makes me wonder though.
It just makes me so sad for the kids. Their mom and step dad are crazy.
SD had cheer practice and had to do a bunch of running and started having asthma symptoms. She's never had that before. She told her mom and her mom got upset and said "you don't have asthma, I do."
Wish we could take the kids to get their shots without it causing WW3.

Why do I think SD's mom was one of those people who was all up in arms about Ebola and hates corn syrup?
If I were your DH, I would insist on a doctor evaluating the asthma. That's not something to mess around with. Of course, if you have it, it is even more important you get your flu shot.

This.
Does she also not "believe in" the flu and think that not "believing" in it means you can't get it?
Asking the question: Do any of you think it's okay or not utterly insane to not want a flu shot? I didn't get one. I told my doctor recently that I didn't want one for my kids.
My husband got one last year, I don't know about this year.
My kids have all the other state-mandated vaccines they need for school and such.
I don't think this is particularly crazy unless your kids are very young. I have never gotten one. I suppose I would if I spent time around the very old or very young (who are most at risk for complications).
FWIW I don't have kids yet. If I do, they will be receiving all Vax recommended by their Dr.
My mom is convinced that her chronic fatigue was caused by a flu shot when she was 19.
She refuses to get any flu shot.
I love my mom, but she is an idiot.
My mom thinks she always catches whatever the vax is for when she gets a shot. No, you do not get the flu from a flu vaccine. This was also in relation to me telling her that when I get pregnant, she needs to get a TDaP booster before she sees my kid. There is no way in hell you can catch tetanus, diphtheria OR whooping cough from a TDaP shot.

It's crazy to me since their mom has asthma and at one point was so sick all the time that she insisted on living close to a hospital. I just don't get it.
If SD is having issues also she needs the damn shot. DD and I both have asthma, mild cases, and we both get the shot.
Her mom was also just really sick with what she called the flu so I don't understand why you wouldn't get one.
Her mom is absolutely crazy. She wasn't like this when she was married to my DH. I think her new husband is just as weird and that's why BM has gone crazy.

I caught the flu while I was in college. I don't EVER remember being so sick, I mean.....flat out, can't get my butt off the sofa sick for 2 weeks. Fortunately, I timed it very well in that I got sick just as midterms finished up and spring break started. Unfortunately, I had to give up the job I had gotten working for the Lake Placid Olympics. That sucked, I lost the opportunity and the $$ I desperately needed to finish up college.
Also consider, if you are around other people who either cannot be vaccinated, or are immunocompromised in some way or another (and that includes pregnant women), you need to be extraordinarily careful not to infect them.

Insane is a strong word, but if everyone who was eligible for vaccines got the flu shot every year, we wouldn't have the flu. And the flu kills tens of thousands of people every year.
Considering there are literally no downsides (well, for some people you might feel a little under the weather for like 2 days) and a lot of upsides (like not dying from the flu) I guess I just don't understand why you would decline, especially if you are already at the doctor.
