I would be sad but not pissed about losing them - mistakes happen - but not being apologetic and blaming you? Yeah, that's where I'd lose it.
This, except I'd start at pissed and raging, ramp down to highly upset and then eventually calm to sad and weepy. But he sure as heck better be apologetic and NOT blaming me for his lack of care and regard.
This is where I'm at now. I know it's a mistake, but it can't be fixed.
I think he's blaming me because he knows he's in a ton of shit and is grasping at reasons for me to not be angry with him.
I had to off-load all the photos off my phone last night and I stupidly cut/pasted into a folder in the 'picture' drive we use. But it jusst DISAPPEARED on me. Poof. Folder gone. I was like "DDDDDDDDHHHHH!!! HALP." he figured it out in 1 second, but yes. From now on COPY, PASTER to new folder, then go delete from phone.
But that made me thing "we should REALLY offsite these somewhere!!" I don't care if it's on a disk drive and just put at someone else's home. If my house burns to the ground, I will lose ALL my photos.

I love it when DH gets pre-emptively mad at me because he knows or thinks I'm mad at him. Real effing mature! /sarcasm

We keep our hard drive with all our wedding photos on it in our safe deposit box.
It's a new laptop We gave the old laptop away. I didn't notice the photos were gone until last night when I was searching for one on his computer.
Wait, what? He lost all your photos and didn't tell you? You just had to find out yourself? omfg.
Yup. It's confusing because he acted like they should all be there, so I searched through all our folders thinking they were merged in with one of the other albums or something. Then he looked for a while, not ever mentioning that he lost them. Maybe he didn't realize he did? I don't know how that's possible. Maybe he was so freaked out, he was stalling by pretending to look?

I don't know how it's possible either. One thing you do when moving files is see them in their new location. But who knows, glitches happen. That's why, as someone else said earlier, you copy and then delete, not just move.
But also, back up hard drive, stat. Keep photos both on your laptop and the hard drive, or the hard drive and an online photo storing service - whatever you prefer, just so you have two sets somewhere.
For me personally, pissed level 3 out of 10. Because I usually post my favorites on FB or IG, or email them to someone so they're in my sent folder, etc. I don't take a ton of pictures and I'm not super attached to them.
In your situation, I'd be at least a 7/10 about the Christmas pictures that can't be found anywhere else. I'm sorry!
Are you sure they aren't somewhere else? I would be so rage filled.
I don't think so. I asked him over and over if he would have uploaded them to another folder/area by mistake, or if they were still on a USB somewhere. Apparently not. I don't know where else they could be. I disabled my icloud almost immediately when it came out last year because it was so glitchy and would pop up on my phone about incorrect password or some shit constantly. I reactivated it when I got the new macbook so I do have the last month or two on my new computer.
I think he's blaming me because he knows he's in a ton of shit and is grasping at reasons for me to not be angry with him.
So his first thought was to be a dick about it, thereby adding another reason for you to be angry with him. Good plan. lol.
Did you give the laptop to someone you know? If so, borrow it back for a few days and try to get the photos back.
Actually yes, we gave it to his niece. They live about 14 hours away though. I'll see if he can take the laptop in somewhere the next time he's visiting them. It's worth a shot.
I'd ask my SIL to do it for me, but there were photos on there I don't want them to see. No nudity but they are very conservative (and religious) and I would die if they went through them.

Before we gave the laptop to his niece, he did a "Factory Reset" I think or some shit like that. Would that affect being able to recover them? I don't want him to tell me it's impossible when it isn't. I thought you may know. I'll call some places and ask.

lol. Maybe you can have whoever does it put them on a password protected flash drive that she can send to you? Most places where you take it in won't do it while you wait, anyway; they're more likely to keep it for a few days. Maybe your SIL can take it in so that it's ready while your DH is there.
ETA: I don't know what "factory reset" does. If all it did was delete whatever files were in the file system and reinstall programs, they might be recoverable. But if it overwrote everything on your hard drive, then they may be gone.

I would be devastated and it would be a long time before I let him live it down. Especially if it was this year, with all the pics of our baby. He knows how important my pictures are to me, which is why I have them saved in like 3 places lol.

OH! I like this idea! Thanks! I'll make some calls. I will die of happiness if this works.

You can usually recover files after a reformat with software.

Level You Are Lucky To Be Breathing. My H broke our external drive, rendering it useless. We had to send it to the data recovery service and spent weeks not knowing if we lost all of pictures. Like everything. Wedding, baby pictures, all of it.

OMG. I need a back up hard drive for my hard drive.

I know this does not bring the photos back. But, Do you have a Google account? If so I'd suggest getting Google photos and set your phone to auto-backup photos/videos (only when you have wifi on option).
This way all of your photos will automatically get uploaded to google photos when you have wifi. I believe storage is up to 15gb which is fairly decent. It also will do this fun auto awesome feature where it will turn multiple photos into moving gifs, collages and even little slideshows with videos and photos mixed.
PS I would be raging to the max with this. I wonder how he wouldn't know it wasn't there or didn't transfer properly the first time.

We are doing this, that might be flameful. H dropped ours and it stopped turning on. We lost all access to everything on it. Recovery, including a new drive was $500. We got everything back but we spent a month not knowing. Never again. Cheaper just to have multiples.

I'll look into this. I do have gmail. I like the idea of an online back up. Thanks!
bania - Is your phone set to sync to FB? If so, or if you're not sure, go to fb, go to your profile page, click on photos and then synced. All of your photos will be there.
I really hope that works, otherwise, definitely cut-his-toenails-too-short level of rage.
I don't think it is. I don't see an area for synced photos under my photo section. I see: Photos of You - Your Photos - Albums - Not Tagged
There's an album called iOS that I don't remember creating but there's only 1 photo in it.
BUT I did find a bunch of photos of last halloween, my bff's wedding and the Seattle trip I took with my bff last summer that I forgot I was missing. (heart). Oh and our 5th Anniversary trip to Cannon beach with the dogs. I'm so happy I uploaded them.
OTOH, what can you do about it now? You certainly should feel upset and not hide that, but the cold shoulder can't bring the photos back. My H would be so worn out with all the conversations we would have about respecting my stuff, asking me first before doing something to my stuff, and being really careful so that he doesn't LOSE my stuff, that he would be unlikely to do something so stupid ever again.

No problem. The thing I like about the google back up over fb is it maintains the original file (so you can actually print a 4x6 later) instead of the compressed mess FB does to all photos.
Another option is dropbox, but the amount of space isn't anywhere near the same as google. (I think it's 2gb starting out then 500mb every person you refer). I have 4 email accounts and have used up the space on one and have moved onto the other
