Does anyone get migraines where they see splotches or flashing lights on their vision? And a tingly feeling in their head? This is happening to me now and I'm freaked out.
My ophthalmologist said to take Advil and lay down for awhile, but I'm terrified my brain is exploding or something. Knowing others have experienced this will ease my mind, lol.
I am told this should pass in an hour or so. But it's terrifying.
It's an optical migraine. I've been getting them for decades (although usually without pain, thank god). One time I actually lost part of my vision for an entire weekend. You will be okay.
Not exactly, but when I was ~9 I told my mom that sometimes I saw flashes/colors/shapes, like when you look at a bright light and then look away. She got very concerned and took me to a neuro. I had a CAT scan done. They told her I would likely either have migraines or epilepsy within a few years. I guess I'm lucky that I get migraines? LOL
Anyway, I remember this distinctly, but the link between migraines and epilepsy has only officially been published in the last few years.
Migraines can do CRAZY things, so I wouldn't be super concerned. Just lie down in a dark room until you feel better. And stay the hell off the computer.

Sometimes I get a spot like you would get if you look at the sun for too long without sunglasses, and I can't blink them away. Then I end up with a migraine. Your brain won't explode. It's just an optic migraine.
I had my first and only one last month. Was it like a crescent shape of flashy lights, like a kaleidoscope? My optometrist cousin called it an ocular migraine and just said to take some medicine if you're prone to head migraines. It just went away on it's own in about 10 minutes.

I get optical migraines, too. Mine manifest as about 1/4 of my visual field sort of shimmers as if I'm looking through barely moving water. It starts on the far left and slowly moves to the far right until it's gone. It takes about 20-30 minutes. No headache at all, but the last time it happened I noticed I was a little bit nauseated by the end. I've been getting them at least 20 years, probably 2 or 3 a year. They were very disconcerting in the early days.
