Payne was sick with a stomach bug on Sunday, has been fine since. I noticed two zits on his face yesterday, but he's had the odd zit or two before, so I didn't think much of it. Then tonight I noticed a mottled rash on his right lower leg and forearm. I assumed it was a post viral rash. THEN right before bed I found a "zit" under his right arm. I'll be damned if it doesn't look like a chicken pox bump, and he has three on his face now.
So, post viral break out, or the pox? He's been vaxed, so it won't be that bad if he does have it, right? I had a horrible chicken pox experience, so now I'm worried.

But really I'm sure he will be fine. My niece had the vaccine and got them and it wasn't bad,and she's a notorious scratcher. It wasn't anything compared to the pox in my nose and throat when I had it.
It can happen, though it should be a milder case than if he weren't already vaccinated. Hope the blemishes clear soon and that it's nothing to worry about.

Just a lurker, but DD and DS1 both got mild cases from the vaccine. And then DH and MIL both got chicken pox from the kids, despite having had chicken pox themselves as kids. It was miserable for all.
I know a couple kids who got chicken pox after the vaccine; it's not a great vaccine. But certainly better than nothing because it will mitigate the severity.
That said, it doesn't sound very chicken poxish- usually kids who get them have a prodrome day way they feel sick (like a mild flu w/o GI symtoms), and then wake up the next day with a blistery rash that starts on their trunk and spreads outward. The blisters are like white-head zits, they're more like clear or yellowish clear fluid before the crust over. Except for the blistering, there isn't any other rash.
Can't be shingles if the child hasn't had chicken pox. Plus the pattern of the breakout in shingles is very distinctive- it follows a dermatome, on one side of the body and limited to one swath of skin.
I got the chicken pox after the vaccine but my vaccine was given as adult and apparently the children's dose wasn't enough. However it was very very mild. The doctor initially thought I had chigger bites hahah. I feel so trashy writing that.
I have known one person who got the chicken pox after receiving the vaccine. It was a very mild case.
When DD was around 2 she had a rash that her daycare insisted was chicken pox. We took her to the pedi and she knew right a way that it definitely was not chicken pox. Her pedi said that chicken pox cases after receiving the vaccine are generally mild.
Ok. This morning he has 4 spots on his face and one on his side. The mottled rash is mostly gone. The spots were white/yellow heads last night and must have popped overnight. Now they look like red dots with a little bit of crust. He said they hurt last night but has not complained this a.m.
No spots on his feet or hands and no fever, so I'm assuming no HFM.
I'm gonna watch him today. Maybe it was just a post viral reaction.
