We rocked DD to sleep until she started doing exactly what you describe, the kicking and laughing, etc. we did a rough week of laying her down and checking on her every few minutes a la Ferber but that honestly just seemed to make it worse. She finally figured it out and puts herself to sleep. Just wanted to say there is hope! DD was about 16 months when we did this.
You give me hope. Another 3 hours to get her down last night. She was so tired she couldn't even hold her head up but she would.not.sleep
So epic fail last night. After 3 hours I finally just rocked her to sleep
Three hours, damn. That is hell . I know this is will be unpopular, but if I'm trying to sleep train I always give Tylenol if I think it's going to get bad. I figure if they're in any kind of pain (teething, headache, whatever) that should help take care of it so they can sleep.

I did give her Motrin after 2 hrs because I thought maybe she was teething. With teeth, both of my kids are totally fine all day and then come bedtime they're whiny little monsters lol. So I'm totally not against Motrin to help sleep
I also wanted to clarify that I didn't let her cry for 3 hrs straight! I was sitting next to her crib and she was fussing and crying but not the whole time
Hey quesyrah, how is your sleep training going? We are on day 3 of the Ferber method, and it is working (slowly). J is crying less and less when I put him down. Hope things are going ok for you
After 3 nights of 3 hours of screaming I gave up. As it turns out the falling asleep issue was teething I can see the tips of two bottom teeth. Motrin tonight and rocked her to sleep...out in 15 min.

Poor thing! (about the teeth) That's the thing about teething that sucks, you never know they're absolutely doing it until after the fact. Are they are 1 year molars? Those were the worst for us. Not that I wish that on you, but it was a 4-6 week process.
Honestly, if it only takes 15 minutes of rocking, I wouldn't worry about it right now - at least until you know she's done teething.

Hey so I meant to respond to you a long time ago but see my venty post about my life being taken over by house hunting.
Anyway, just to give you a story that will maybe make you feel better, we basically rocked DD1 to sleep until she was 2. It seemed like every time we about reached our breaking point would turn out she was sick or teething or something and she'd go back to falling asleep more quickly. When she turned 2, I was pregnant and didn't want to be rocking her with a huge belly. The way I did it was by transitioning her to a toddler bed and sitting next to her on the floor while she fell asleep. Then gradually leaving the room for a few minutes at a time. Also helped to have a playlist or audio book playing. Took just a couple weeks to be able to just say good night and leave. The first couple nights she was pissed off though, but I just powered through sitting next to her on the floor and rubbing her back. It wasn't really that bad.
