Ms. Hickox, 33, was placed in quarantine under a new policy announced on Friday by the governors of New York and New Jersey. All people entering the United States through Newark Liberty and Kennedy Airports will now be quarantined for 21 days if they had direct contact with Ebola patients in Guinea, Liberia or Sierra Leone, even if they show no symptoms of infection.
Is every arriving passenger into EWR and JFK being quizzed on whether they had been in contact with Ebola patients in those countries? Is this part of immigration procedures or something else? What happens if they lie?

THIS IS SUCH A TERRIBLE AND STUPID IDEA.
Yeah, cause it worked so well to stop the patient in Texas from coming in. People are just going to lie so they don't have to be quarantined, and then you're going to have them hiding their symptoms so they won't go to jail for lying about being in contact with people with ebola.
Ebola is spread thru contact with bodily fluids of those infected. I don't think this makes the general public at high risk, like an airborne respiratory illness, for example, would. So I do feel like the mandatory quarantine is extreme. Should she be closely monitored? Yeah, probably. But she could certainly get home visits to monitor temps and any signs of GI s/s.
All that being said, if there are going to be mandatory quarantines they need to be done humanely. I'd rage with only a granola bar!
