E is a big girl for 6 months (i.e., off the chart for height and 80s for weight percentile), and it’s becoming increasingly difficult for me to carry her into daycare in her bucket seat. It looks like I’m doing a combo the wedding march and limping when I carry her.
I don’t have a Snap-n-Go and really am not interested in buying one at this point unless this thread indicates it’s a must. I have the City Select stroller (which I love) with an adapter for her seat and am not opposed to strolling her into school, but there isn’t unlimited space for those things.
When did you move your large infant into the convertible seat? Will I regret doing that once there’s snow/ice on the ground? Should I keep her in the bucket (and just use the stroller) until after this first winter passes - assuming her height doesn’t force us into a convertible?
We switched DS (~75% weight) at the beginning of the month when be was about 7.5 months old. I would have done it sooner but I was waiting for my seat to come in stock.
I would switch him now. DH and I both commented on how much easier it is to take him in and out of the building now. There is another mom who has her son in a bucket and he's around 10 months old. I don't see how she does it! Most of the rest of his class is carried in sans bucket.
We switched to a convertible around 6 months for the same reasons you mentioned. Baby & seat were too heavy to carry around together, we stopped using the car seat Caddy because it was too hot to stroll him around in a car seat..... So yeah, it sounds like a convertible makes the most sense for you guys.
We switched at 5 months. He was 28 inches and when we used a convertible on vacation at 4.5m he fought the car seat a lot less. I sold the bucket and have zero intention of using one for #2. It was sort of nice in the beginning, but I would have been fine with a combination of baby wearing/stroller.
Don't forget that you can always keep them in the bucket for driving, but unbuckle and carry into daycare. At least, if you use the same car for pickup and drop off. One of my good friends kept her kid in the bucket until 1yr but never took the seat out of her car after a certain point.
I did this for quite awhile 90% of the time - she was so heavy, I didn't want to lug the seat in.
That said, I find it a lot easier to get her in/out of a convertible seat. I have a bad back and it's less leaning.
We stopped bringing the infant carrier out of the car around 5 or 6 months and then switched her to a convertible at 9 months which was December. I just wrapped her in a blanket and sorta zipped her into my jacket when going to and from the car. She always had a hat and warm booties on.
We got a convertible seat when DD hit 20 lbs around 4 months. She was really long, too; off the charts for all measurements. She just looked squished and uncomfortable in the bucket seat.
