Thanks! Had been debating one of the boxes for the older TV in the bedroom. For $19 I'll take it! Our main tv has smart apps -- it is also connected to Xbox One, and 360 for HBO go so don't need it for that one. I've been annoyed with the tv in the bedroom since Comcast screwed around with the network channels needing the box to uncode vs the tv card thing. Nothing working on it.
I think I'm going to stick with the Roku Stick. Waiting for a Black Friday sale to pop up... Amazon Fire TV's list of channels just isn't quite there yet.
Anyone gotten theirs yet? DH asked after a commercial for it and ours isn't scheduled to ship until December 17.
I got mine Friday morning, haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet. I don't like that it has a power cord, I can see that being a problem if you don't want a ford hanging down from your TV (ours is on the wall). I have a cord hidden behind the TV so hopefully it won't be an issue. Setup was super easy, from opening the box to watching a TV show was less than 15 minutes (including about 10 for a software update). I like the remote but have discovered that being all black and slim, it easily falls through couch cushions and we spent a good 20 minutes trying to find it last night.
All in all, for $19 I'm glad I got one. It will be going downstairs in the basement for me to have a TV to watch while I am on the elliptical. We don't have cable down there and this is a good solution to that issue.
Wait there's a cord for the stick? Doesn't that defeat the whole stick advertisement? None of the commercials show a power cord. DH may send it back then.

I got mine today, it promptly broke. My replacement is being sent out tomorrow. It crashed during the update after I connected to my network and it started the update. It got stuck in a cant complete the update loop. After one very failed pathetic chat tech support and a phone call to someone who was an actual person, it had to do with Amazon not having it registered correctly in their system. They are replacing it.
Yes, it has an extra cord, so do the other sticks. You don't have to use the wall outlet, you can just plug it into the USB port on the TV if it has a free port. It takes a little longer to boot up than the wall connection.
Any idea if I can use this to stream a movie playing in my web browser to the TV?
Not directly. The best gadget for that is the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter if you're on windows, or use Airplay to connect a Mac to an Apple TV.
But most big video sites (Youtube, Netflix, Hulu, HBO, etc.) build apps for each of these gizmos. Personally I like the Chromecast, but I haven't kept up with the news to see which gizmos are getting the most apps these days.
