And that means it's almost National Novel Writing Month!
If you're planning to participate in NaNoWriMo, head on over to the new NanoWriMo board to talk strategy, commiserate, and congratulate each other. If you aren't planning to participate, you can still come over and make fun of people trying to write novels.
And FYI, SmockSister did NaNo one year, edited her novel, and self-published on Amazon. In the last 2 months she's made $10k. NO JOKE. Holy shit, I need to do something with my dusty old NaNo novels.

What?! How does payment work for something like that? How much does she get per purchase?
She gets paid by Amazon once a month at the end of the month. She gets to set her own price--she is selling her novel for $2.99, which means she gets 70% of every sale (about $2 per book). She's publishing a second book next month to rake in more dough.
