So I'm majorly stressed out and need decisions made for me. Sorry, this will be kind of long!
I've mentioned the nightmare that is my headaches and migraines before (many times, I'm sure). I've had headaches since I was 5, migraines since I was 10, and both have been chronic for 15 years or so. I've been seeing a my current neurologist about 3 years. He is awesome - knowledgeable, caring, and patient.
We started doing nerve blocks about 2 years ago for a couple reasons 1) to ween me off all headache meds, and 2) I wasn't comfortable with most anything he can prescribe in terms of a daily preventative because I was TTC. At the time, he mentioned that I was a prime candidate for Botox but said something to the effect of "there hasn't been a ton of research on how it may affect future children, so if you were my wife or sister, I'd probably advise against it until done having children." That statement has stuck with me.
We moved forward with the nerve blocks and have done them for almost two years. I dropped from 23+ headaches a month with 10+ of those severe, to about 13 headaches a month with about 5 severe. Obviously, that number of headaches still isn't ideal. Lately, they've picked up a lot again -- likely to do job/TTC stress. The last couple visits, he has started to suggest Botox to get better control of my headaches. He knows about my TTC stuff and thinks it would be an ideal time since I'm taking a couple cycles off while we work out all the OB stuff. He no longer feels it's a risk, but something tells me he still wouldn't have his wife do it. I told him at my appt today that I wasn't comfortable throwing in any unknown factors right now with TTC and he said he understood. Now I'm wondering if I should just do while my deductible is met, headaches are bad, and I'd love to feel in control of something in my life. Basically he said it's fine, OB has said it's fine, google says "not enough research." Help!

I say yes just because I can't imagine continuing to deal with this after you have for so long. You need to take care of yourself. I guess I also come from the point of view right now though that you can't stop life for TTC.
Also, I wanted to say yes AND you're crazy but I couldn't select two
Now would make sense to be the time to give it a try, if you've met your deductible and you've decided to take a break from TTC. That way you can find out if it works well for you, and if it does then you can talk some more with your doctors about the safety risks once you start actively TTC again.
I say go for it. I couldn't imagine being in pain that long for headaches. I see it being a good choice especially if you are taking a few cycles off from TTC and that your OB cleared you to try it out. It might cut down on stress since you wouldn't be in pain! Good luck making the decision

I get migraines too, although luckily not quite as many. I would probably do it! Migraines are miserable and I would do just about anything to reduce them as much as possible!
I haven't voted yet. Have you talked to your OB/RE about it? If they give you the go-ahead, I would do it. Or if you are taking a certain number of months off, I would go for it to see how it works.
One thing to consider is how long does one treatment last for headaches? If it's going to wear off relatively soon (and very possibly while you are pregnant), I might not do it. Because then you'd have all this pain you were no longer used to and you wouldn't be able to treat it, which would be awful.
Oops, just saw your OB already said it's fine. In that case, go for it! I hope it turns out to be just what you need! Headaches are so miserable and 5-10 severe ones would be so terrible. Hugs.
I voted yes. Your quality of life is important. And your OB sounds on board with the plan.
Regarding the other doctor and thinking he wouldn't let his wife do the same...similar, my RE told me that he didn't want his wife doing any exercise in pregnancy other than walking. Thankfully my OB was the voice of reason. Some doctors are just weirdly over cautious.
Now would make sense to be the time to give it a try, if you've met your deductible and you've decided to take a break from TTC. That way you can find out if it works well for you, and if it does then you can talk some more with your doctors about the safety risks once you start actively TTC again.
This. Word for word. I hope this gives you a reprieve from the headaches.
I would do it as well. I also get migraines but only 2-3/year and when I get them they are severe. If I got 5 severe headaches a month plus other headaches I would need the treatment.

I say yes. You need to do what is best for you and what is going to make you feel better. Your doctor and OB have agreed, don't listen to Google, it's just wants to rile you up.

Thanks ladies! I meet with my OB again on friday, so I'm going to re-confirm with her. If she is on-board and my neurologist can get me in the next few weeks, I think i'm going to try it. Appreciate your thoughts!
