DH's company offers $300 per person if you have good blood pressure and BMI. We have always gotten the full $600 but this yeary BMI was overweight and I need to lose 18bs to get it down into healthy. One of the problems is one of my meds makes me gain (steroid). The rest of the problems are my love of food

I'm trying to get back into it. I was running and eating well and feeling great and this Aug/Sept was a big shakeup to my schedule and I haven't quite recovered.
I am still overweight. I was just really happy to finally not be obese after I started running. I also love the food. I love the wine. I don't eat the fake crap or the teeny portions.
My best approach has been to exercise a lot. For me that's mostly treadmill running at home because it's fast and right here. I do best with my diet when I eat whole foods and plant heavy. Not quite low carb or paleo but I base my meals on veggies first, meat second, and grains last. Tons of water and I don't keep alcohol in the house.
Good luck to you in whatever you do. It's a good thing to care for your body. I try to remember I'm doing it for DD too and that helps.
Less calories in is the only thing that seems to work for me. I stay active - mostly swimming or hiking and chasing after my kid so no real formal workouts, but when I put on pounds it's because of eating.
My mom is on steroids for an illness and she's been taking these gummy fibers that supposedly curb appetite. She also drinks kombucha. She swears by that stuff. The weight gain because of the steroids seriously depresses her so she has tried almost everything and seems to have found some relief with the kombucha and gummy fibers.
I wish I had time for my old, pre-kids, fitness routine. Now the thought of it is completely laughable, haha (sigh).
I stay busy with the kids, and we don't stay home - we get out of the house every morning for a kid-related activity or running errands, etc. Just that is pretty exhausting alone And we go for a walk every afternoon after quiet time... and I carry DS in a carrier, and DD half walks, half rides in the stroller. So that's pretty good exercise for me.
We eat, I`d say... 80% real, whole foods too. I avoid processed, pre-packaged foods or anything with artificial additives as much as possible. We don't eat very much meat. And I do NOT eat the kids' leftovers (that alone was a huge hindrance to my weight loss goals before)!

Can you find out the name of the Gummy fibers? I don't think I could do kombucha. Steroids are a bitch

Sure. I'm having dinner with my parents tomorrow so I'll find out. I make the kombucha at home for my mom...I can't swallow more than a few sips but she drinks 32 oz a day. It's definitely an acquired taste.
I track my food on my fitness pal. I workout about 5 days a week and try to only drink on the weekends. I also give myself a cheat day every week, and weigh myself once a week. I'm still over weight, but I'm slowly getting back to where I used to be. The ppd kicked my ass with ds2, and I gained 20 after he was born.
Oh, and my bff and I take Zumba together most Monday night's. We used to meet for drinks, but decided to change it up, and never went back.
Well, the battle for me is never ending. I love food and I have PCOS and thyroid issues so weight really sticks.
I like my fitness pal for calorie tracking and my new passion is exercise classes at my gym. Zumba, spin and/or body pump every week and stroller walks a few times per week.
It's hard though! I sort of turn into a gremlin after LO goes to bed so I completely relate you your little Debbie story I had ice cream with chocolate sauce after my healthy sensible dinner so yeah....no stones here.

High protein diet with lots of healthy fats. Limited processed foods-if it has more than five ingredients in it and any are unrecognizable I avoid it. I have a cheat day. If I have a chocolate craving I'll throw a teaspoon into some milk. If I'm craving salt I eat some cashews.
Someone made a statement on MFP that I liked. Weight loss is made in the kitchen, fitness is made in the gym.
Counting calories is what worked for me. I lost 34 pounds. I did do a 30 minute workout a few days a week fir a while, but I can continue to lose weight without it. To lose weight, you need to eat fewer calories than you burn. Figure out your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure). Scooby Workshop has a good calculator. Eat less than that amount. You don't have to starve yourself with only 1200 calories a day.
Many people have success while allowing cheat meals. I could blow half a week's calorie deficit with one cheat meal, so I was very strict (still am to an extent). I have no self control and MFP helped me reign in my eating.
Tracking my calories and exercise on the "Lose It" app has always worked well for me. @tooshort 1200 calories a day sounds really low! Your body might be going into starvation mode! You might want to up it to at least 1500 per day, and if you exercise, then a few more. That's my unsolicited advice anyway
The single biggest thing that helped me was portion control. I love food way too much for fad diets, like would rather give up my right arm. Then one day the lightbulb came on and I realized I can still eat all the things but just in smaller portions. I shit you not, the pounds just started coming off after I made that change. My main form of exercise is walking. I walk a LOT. I can't really do high impact stuff because I have bad knees.
I love Spark so much more than MFP. They give you a range instead of a hard number, which is more realistic, and they don't do it off net numbers. They track your intake and your workouts separate.
3 years ago after I had DD I had a TON of baby weight to loose. What worked for me at the time was counting calories, eating clean, and working out 4 days a week at the gym. I don't think it would have came off as fast if I didn't work out. Mixing cardio with weight lifting is what I liked best although I did try zumba, pole dancing, pilates. The last year and half I've only been going to a yoga studio and I absolutely love it. I can't go to a gym anymore because I don't feel I get enough out of it like I do with yoga. It shed inches off my belly.

Gummy fibers are just walgreens brand and look like gumdrops
I mean, the only real way to lose weight is to cut your calories. Track how much you eat for 2-3 weeks. You need to excise 3500 calories out of your diet a week to lose one pound of weight. You can do this by eating less and/or burning more calories. (Sorry, this isn't meant to sound snarky, if it does).
For me, the best way for me to lose weight is a) keep my calories between 1600-1800 on most days, and try to fill my diet with at least 6-7 servings of fruits and veggies a day, and b) exercise 5-6 days a week.
I'm currently running 3x a week and cross-training 2-3 days (usually strength training plus walking) as I'm running another 5K on Nov. 16th. I'm sloooooow (like, 13min/mi), but everything is doable. I also wear a Fitbit Zip to track steps and aim for 5 miles a day. On running days this is easy, it's my non-running days where I struggle.

Not snarky at all. I know I need to eat better and exercise more. I talked to a friend who is a fitness instructor and she's helping me lot together a workout plan that's doable with my arthritis.
Today was a good start. Typically I have a Coffee for bkfast and then don't eat again until lunch at the earliest. But today I had scrambled eggs with salsa and a whole wheat tortilla.
