I love our kids daycare (starting with that) but I'm a little annoyed. Today they watched a movie at their party and ate cupcakes, candy and popcorn. I don't like him having screen time at daycare and that's way to much junk. I want to save tv and treats for when I want to do something special with him. Would you be annoyed or am I being silly?
I'd be annoyed because we limit screen time and sweets too. I also would let it go because it's a "holiday" day at dc and I can see them wanting to do something fun for the kids too. As long as it's not a regular thing, I'd let it go.
There has been one other movie this school year. I think a kid brought it for his birthday. I'm not going to pitch a fit, but may just ask what the screen time policy is. I'm still going to let him have a piece or two of candy during trick or treat. Just wish it weren't on top of a cupcake, other candy and popcorn.
Our preschool goes nutty for holidays. Yesterday he was there in costume all day, had cupcakes, went trick or treating at a neighbors house for lollipops , watched a show, and came home with a crap ton of candy. I'm totally fine with it because I , myself am also nutty for holidays. I think it's fun.
I would be upset about screen time, but that's because B's daycare doesn't allow it at all. They have computers in the preschool rooms, that's it.
I hate daycare parties for holidays because B gets so much sugary crap and is a little hell-beast afterwards. I would much prefer 1 or 2 sugary treats as compared to the juice, frosted sugar cookie, brownie, and pumpkin Rice Krispie that he got. In his defense he also ate cheese curls, cheese cubes, fruit, and whole wheat crackers. And I wondered why he didn't eat dinner ...
Obviously in the minority here but I hate when anyone feeds my kid crap. I wouldn't make a big deal out of it because I don't want him to be left out. But it's beyond me why a preschool needs to feed cupcakes and candy to 2-year-olds.

This is exactly where in at. I would never say that he couldn't participate if it is happening. I wouldn't want him to be left out. I just wish they would have celebrated in a different way (aka one treat vs three and a Haloween themed game or craft vs a movie).

Did the school provide it all or did parents bring it in? If parents bring it in- then I would suggest next holiday party for you to bring the craft. In elementary school, it seems food ends up being cheaper and easier. Especially for working parents but the teachers might love someone to send in craft supplies to make something simple. Personally I know I sign up for something prepackaged that I can buy the weekend before on our usual grocery trip. I don't have time lately to go mid-week. I brought cheese sticks this time.
Who knows other parents in the class might feel the same way and be willing to sign up for stuff too.

They provided it all, but sending in an easy craft is a great idea. Of course, I'd run it by the teacher first. It might be a subtle way to suggest other options.

I hate that Jameson has a dairy allergy, but sometimes it is nice that I can tell preschool that he can't eat any of the crap that gets brought in.
