I've tried camping a few times. Definitely not my thing. If I absolutely have to do it with the girl scouts (both girls are scouts) I'll suffer through for my daughter's sakes, but will spend the next weekend at the spa recovering.
Camping....nope. I like fluffy beds and lots of covers and showers. Now that I have a kid, camping sounds even worse lol. But I am a wuss that likes nice hotels when I travel
Camping does not fit in the definition of a vacation. But it's fun in its own way. Kids really benefit from that kind of adventure and I don't mind doing it for a couple of days once or twice a year.
We love camping! The site we go to has a lot of amenities though - full bath houses, general store with like, fresh fruit, meat, and seafood, playgrounds, crafst, paddle boats, pools, splash pads, the whole 9 yards. We tow a small fishing boat (it's right on the water) and can put that in right at the site too. We still camp in a tent, but it's nice to not be completely roughing it
This was DS's first year and he did amazing; me, not so much this year though - the campground had been hit by a tornado earlier in the year and a couple people were actually killed. Judging by the number of tree stumps by our site, I think it happened right around where we were :/ And it rained most of the time. But other than that, it was fun!
I like camping, too. Not for a whole week as my only vacation, but a weekend here and there, I enjoy. But we go to my family's property in upstate New York which has all the fun of camping & being outside with a full kitchen, bathroom, heat, etc.
We've also done the rustic eco resort thing in St. John and it was awesome. Not camping but not fancy hotel either. I'm so sad the place we went to is gone.
I actually really dislike all inclusive resorts because I don't like doing all of my eating and drinking there. I know I could leave, but then I'm paying for food I'm not eating.
Our honeymoon in st Lucia was a wonderful resort, but we had fun checking out some other restaurants, too.

I like Sandals because we could eat at any of their resorts. They made us reservations at the restaurants we wanted and transported us there and back when we wanted to go. So we got to check out multiple places as part of the all inclusive price.
Granted it's not little local places and stuff but the way people were driving on the island, I didn't want to venture out on my own lol
We go to sandal every year and eat off a lot! I know some amazing tiny dives in Jamaica in addition to people's houses. We are friends with both a bartender and butler we met there and have eaten at both their houses.

I sincerely hope that I can live the rest of my life without ever camping again. DH can take the kids if he wants to participate in that bullshit. The outdoors are just not my cup of tea.
D'oh guys! It's nice. I swear lol. But like...running water, ya know? I camped once in high school and all that was around was a shower stall that only had cold water. THAT was miserable.

Yea, we like venturing out.
Ironically, you could say disney world is a giant all inclusive. And when I go there, I don't leave the disney bubble.

Whereabouts in NY?
Super upstate, 1/2 hour from 1000 islands, off of 81.

This is America, and none of us are homeless. None of us should be sleeping on the ground outside. Our ancestors came here to make sure we would never have to suffer like that again.
When I have camped with DH...it's 2 miles into the woods. Tent only. No potty, no shower, only the food we lugged up there...hiking on end all day...the ONLY part I actually really enjoy is sitting around the fire at night with friends hanging out. The hiking is fun for about an hour.
Then I want heat, a comfy bed, a SHOWER AND TOILET!!! And some protection from the elements.
DH is also super psyched to take the kids camping.
Team camping here! I grew up "car camping", where we schlep a ton of stuff in our van to a state park and set up a couple of tents, but still have bathroom facilities and a camp stove and stuff. DH introduced me to backpacking... Strapping everything into your back, hiking up a few miles, and then camping. It's a whole different beast, but still really fun.
I do not understand the camping hate! I guess I'm pretty outdoorsy so maybe that's why. Camping means hiking and exploring and making fires and s'mores and swimming and waking up early and gorgeous views... Totally worth sleeping on the ground and slathering yourself in bug spray.
I like exploring, fires, s'mores, swimming, up early and gorgeous views. But I can do all of those things based out of a hotel and not sleep on the ground or piss behind a tree.
We rent the most beautiful house in hill country that allows us to do all of that with beds and showers! No camping needed.
