I am the new zarapipe LOL. Help me out please ladies! (And niq).
DS's name is short and starts with O, so O names are out. The middle name will probably be Jean (I couldn't get DH to go for it as a first name, sorry stacyb1983!)
I'm looking for a name that everyone knows how to spell, everyone knows how to pronounce, but it's not in common usage. So, my criteria:
-nothing in the Top 25 -preferably short -needs to sound just as good on a 42yo businesswoman as a 5yo girl. So cutesy names like Zoey are NMS.
Here's our favorites so far:
1. Hazel 2. Phoebe 3. Claudia 4. Penelope, nn Penny. We like the nn, but the full name is too fussy.
We really like Hazel but it's skyrocketing up the popularity charts, it's gone from 681->157 in the last 10 years. I'm worried it's the new Charlotte (183->11 in the same timeframe).
*Added prize:* if one of you suggest the name we pick, I'll reveal it to the board!
I (perhaps selfishly) can't imagine Hazel as the next Charlotte, but I suppose stranger things have happened. I'd say your other 3 options are definitely less popular.
I have become a lot less concerned about popularity outside of the top five or so. I have a "classic" popular name and it is a non issue. Also even with the popularity of Hazel it is no where close to 25.
Yeah, DD's name is technically in the top 10, but I have yet to meet any other little girls with her name. I personally know of a handful of kids with her name (Elizabeth) under 18, but I highly doubt she's going to have to be Elizabeth H. through school, like I always had to be Sarah last initial in the 80s/90s.
I mentioned this in a post the other day, but Hazel is our girl name if the next one is a girl. I also hope that it doesn't become SO popular, but it's a beautiful name.
Good suggestions, keep them coming! aspentosh, Ava is #5 LOL. pupcake, Anna is #35.
Unfortunately a lot of these great names got vetoed. Alice was the name of the ferret DH and I had when we first met, she died My car's name is Lucy (yes I name my cars, so what?) And DH dated a girl named Juliet.
DH vetoed Margaret, Matilda, and Gwendolyn as being too long. They were on my list.

Hadley Jean is an awesome name. It's my dog's name, but don't let that stop you from using it. I love, love, love it. And, it's a good scolding name. Hopefully your child won't need as much scolding as my dog, though. ?
