So I got an offer...with lower salary and vacation than I would need to take it, unfortunately. So it may not happen, or at least there will be some negotiation involved.
But GAH to this part. My current company pays semi-annual bonuses on August 15 and Feb 15 for the first and second halves of the year. We just got an email yesterday that the bonus will be higher than usual (yay!) but two weeks late on August 31. So if I want to be safe and get the bonus, I can't give notice until then, and couldn't start until mid-September at the earliest.
New job pays bonuses once a year in February, but you have to have started by September 1 to be eligible. So if I wait to get to safely get my bonus in old job, I wouldn't be eligible for any bonus at new job until Feb 2014.
If my damn job had paid the bonuses on time, it would have been perfect.
Congrats on getting the offer. Hopefully there is some room to negotiate.
If they won't budge on salary or vacation, will they budge on bonus eligibility? Eg, perhaps if you explain that you can't leave your current job until mid-September (you don't need to give a reason, other than maybe some oblique, "the timing of a particular project was delayed, and I wouldn't feel right leaving in the middle of it"), maybe they will agree to waive the bonus eligibility rule for you.
