We are in the upper floor of a house with no control of the thermostat, (downstairs tenant has if). When the basement is comfortable for them it is cold upstairs. When comfortable for us she is sweltering .
We are going to do a better job sealing out front and back door but have noticed a bit of a draft comes off the windows. Has anyone tried those window plastic things. Do they help?
Any other suggestions to try and keep us warm upstairs besides sweaters, slippers and a space heater?
Plastic totally helps. I live in a 130 yr old brownstone and it made such a difference. It's crazy to see the plastic puff up with air after they're sealed--you can really see how drafty the windows are
The window plastic helps! We use it I. A few rooms with crappy windows. Do you have a small heater? Talk to your landlord maybe you can get a small pellet stove or a small electric fireplace that gives heat?
And I splurged on curtains with blackout liners and they help with drafts a ton!! If I open them in the winter I feel cold swooping into the room that they were blocking.

We just put plastic on our windows this weekend. We also added weatherstripping to the doors and new door sweep. We will likely end up getting a little portable heater. Eta I also have thermal curtains on every window and it helps some.
Plastic makes a big difference. We have 2 shitty windows on the one side of the house and once we get the plastic up you can feel the wind pressing on the plastic.
And another vote for thermal (or any other thick) curtains. In combination, it makes things almost draft free.
