My doctor wrote a prescription after DD was born, while I was still in the hospital. I then got all my prescriptions filled from the hospital pharmacy (pain meds and pump). I got a PISA. Super simple and easy for me.

I contacted Edgepark and they did all the legwork with insurance. They allow you to start the process 30 days before your due date. DS showed up 28 days before and the pump arrived at the house right after we got home from the hospital, thank goodness!
bought and they reimbursed me. i bought a freestyle at target and they covered the whole thing. the only requirement was that it had to be a brick and mortar store. im not sure why.
It was much easier than I was expecting. I got an RX from my ob, called my insurance company and they put me in contact with a dme company. I had a choice of an ameda py or a medela Pisa starter kit (no bag, ice pack, extra bottles, or battery pack). I also had the option to pay an extra $55 or so to upgrade to the regular medela Pisa which included all the extras, which is what I did.

I did this too, but my insurance wouldn't let me order until after the baby was born.
I got a letter in the mail from my HMO, letting me know that they'd cover a pump, if I wanted one. They had the number of the DME vendor listed. I called, and it was a dedicated line for this insurance company, and the whole process was automated. I had the pump on my doorstep 3 days later.
I didn't have any choice in pumps though, and they sent me am Ameda purely yours. I HATE it, and thankfully already had a PIS from another MMMer, which had been provided by her insurance.

OB wrote a prescription and faxed it in to medical supplier. They called me to get my insurance info. When I called insurance to ask about it, they said that I couldn't get it until after the baby was born and I would have to pay 10%. Medical supplier said that they would send it before and I didn't end up paying anything. I got a PISA.

Call your insurance company and see what they say. I've seen it both ways - where you buy & they reimburse and where they just send you one.
My insurance (FEP BCBS) has a choice of 2 pumps, a manual & a dual electric Ameda. To get either, you call a phone #, give them your member # and your EDD (or tell them you are nursing) and they ship it to you. Very painless.
I got a prescription the day J was born. Before we left the hospital we went down to the medical supplier in the hospital to get the pump. Gave them the form and insurance and they did all the paperwork and gave me the pump. Was super easy.
I called the insurance company and they gave me a choice of 3 DMEs. I picked one, ordered online, they verified with my insurance company, and they sent it to me 30 days before my due date.
DME company had a rx form that I filled out top, md filled out bottom. RN faxed it in and they called me 2 hours later with two pumps ready to be picked up.

I called the insurance company who gave me two DMEs to choose from. I checked out the websites and ordered online from the one that was easier. They did all the work and sent me the pump 30 days before my due date.
My insurance fills it through my pharmacy benefit with Caremark and they send it directly to me. There's one manual pump and one electric pump to choose from.

My OB wrote a prescription for me while I was in the hospital. The nurse ran the scrip down to the DME supplier in the hospital, and it was delivered to my room later that day. It couldn't have been easier.
I went through edgepark it was a nightmare I had a script from my doctor. My insurance representative actually called them 3x to help me order it. The last call she placed to them it took over an hour and a half. Their customer service reps were awful

This except I got it at BRU. Doesn't seen common though.
I think I had a choice of ordering through a conpany though but I already had a freestyle at home so I knew I wanted that. Sad part is I only use my old one!

I couldn't order mine until after I delivered. I got a prescription before I left the hospital and went to a medical supply store. I could've had it delivered for an additional fee. There was only one store with breast pumps and it was a county over, but I also live in a rural area. The hospital provided a list of medical supply stores.
