Has anyone priced it out? Is there more postage for square cards?
I'm looking on the USPS website (http://postcalc.usps.com/) to see and down at the bottom where it says letter and it has a little ? it says the following and I'm trying to figure out what the hell that means if I order square announcements since it's not very specific.
Dimension Minimum Maximum Height 3-1/2 inches (8.890 cm) 6-1/8 inches (15.557 cm) Length 5 inches (12.700 cm) 11-1/2 inches (29.210 cm) Thickness 0.007 inch (0.018 cm) 1/4 inch (0.635 cm) Any item smaller than the minimum dimensions is not mailable. For items larger in length, width, or thickness, see large envelopes or packages. For envelopes, length is the dimension parallel to the address.
For letter-sized items over 3.5 ounces (0.099 kg), large envelope prices will be applied.
Letters that meet one or more of the nonmachinable characteristics below are subject to the nonmachinable surcharge.
It is a square letter It is too rigid – does not bend easily It has clasps, string, buttons, or similar closure devices It has an address parallel to the shorter dimension of the letter It contains items such as pens that cause the surface to be uneven The length divided by height is less than 1.3 or more than 2.5
Square Envelope The minimum size for a square envelope is 5 inches x 5 inches (12.700 cm x 12.700 cm).
Postage and Envelopes for Card Types Published 12/12/2013 12:35 PM | Updated 03/17/2014 01:31 PM How much postage is required to mail my cards? Can I request different envelopes for my cards?
Most of our card types can be mailed using a single postage stamp (as of this writing, $0.46 US (46 cents)). The exception is our 5x5 Stationary Cards, which due to their shape require an additional $0.20 US (20 cents) postage.
Square cards cost more. I remember this from my wedding. Not worth the extra postage. Definitely check before you order if they ship with regular sized envelopes.

Square envelopes cost more. I have seen square cards with matching rectangular envelopes, and those don't require extra postage so I'd look into whether that was an option. Otherwise I don't think the extra $$ is worth it and I'd likely opt for a "regular" size/shape.
When I ordered square cards from Tiny Prints one year I chose the option to get rectangular envelopes that fit the square cards to avoid having to pay more for postage. They are A7 fitted envelopes.
