For valuables, important papers? We need one mostly as a theft deterrent but I'm wondering if we should also use it for important stuff like papers and maybe electronics when we're not home (eg if cleaning service is here)
If so, what brand/type is it? Fireproof, waterproof? How big of a safe did you decided to get.
I'm thinking I'd like to order from Amazon so I don't have to carry it home but no huge deal if Amazon doesn't have it.

I have 2 smaller fireproof/waterproof safes. 1 for all of our important documents and the other has all of my external hard drives of photos. Nothing of real monetary value is in them.
We have a fireproof one for our important documents. It is small though and wouldn't be a thief deterrent because someone could likely just pick it up and walk away with it.
Ironically, our safe is being installed today. It's about 3' square and being installed into a closet inset that will be covered with a locked door. We have a fireproof small one now that anyone could just pick up and walk away with. I'm not comfortable with that.
just a small fireproof one for papers. not a theft prevention one
Ditto.
Actually, the key is even in the lock. H's parents always did that with safes that just had papers, so that hopefully if someone broke in, they'd check and see it wasn't cash. I don't know if that's a deterrent to someone just carrying it off, LOL, but at least we haven't lost the key?
I would actually go to a local key/lock/safe company and check them out. I LOVE Amazon for 98% of things but a safe isn't one of them. And a good safe will need to be installed properly (bolted down) so a local company would be better for that. And a decent safe is heavy as shit.

I don't even bother locking them. I am sure a thief would open it up and see that it isn't anything important and that our electronics are worth far more.
