It's really interesting! I keep going back and forth about whether I think the guy is guilty. I really hope there's some kind of firm answer at the end of it all.

I hope so too, Liz. I think even if he IS guilty, they did a poor job with his initial case.
True story: one of my good HS friends is serving life in prison for first degree murder. I remember the last time I talked to him. I also remember finding out. I understand not wanting to believe someone is guilty, and I try hard to look at it from a logical stance. I'm trying to do the same with this case and even without considering his "nice guy" status, there are just SO many questionable things!
No matter what the actual events, there was not nearly enough evidence to convict, and Adnan should have been acquitted at his second trial.
Based on the podcast and Reddit AMAs, here's what I think happened:
Adnan, Hae and Stephanie are close friends, Jay is an outsider. Jay "would move heaven and earth" for Stephanie...and yet he's cheating on her (or stEPPPP-INGGGG OU-ttt" on her. Gawd that attorney's voice was irritating.) Possibly (probably?) with Jen. Hae had told Adnan while they were dating that she knew about Jay's cheating, didn't approve of him, that she thought Stephanie could do better, etc. So, the day Hae is murdered, it's Stephanie's birthday, right? And Adnan has gotten her a gift, and Jay hasn't. I think Jay was panicked about losing Stephanie.
So, I think Jay felt threatened by Hae, who was going to tell Stephanie about him cheating and who didn't like him anyway and he confronted her and ultimately killed her. I think he ditched her car, called Jen for help, destroyed evidence, and conspired with Jen to cover it all up and blame Adnan.
I think it's SUPER weird that Stephanie, who was supposed to be Adnan's best friend, cut off all contact with him after he was charged, and continued to be with Jay even after he admitted to burying Hae's body. I also want to know when/why they eventually broke up.
Also, I think there's more to the store re: Mr. S. I don't know whether there's some connection between Mr. S and Jay, or Mr. S and Jen, or what, but...I do not believe that he just happened upon her buried body like that.

I agree that there's a whole lot of reasonable doubt, and if I were on a jury, I would not vote to convict. I don't think he did it. I've always thought that Jay was very fishy, but I couldn't really think of a strong motive he would have for killing Hae. GLW, you have an interesting theory, but I just don't know. I wonder what, if anything, will come from the DNA being tested.
But really, I think the murderer is the woman who can't pronounce "Mail Chimp." She's always seemed suspicious. :-)
