I was a ball of nerves this morning, and got to work early so I could catch my boss first thing. Of course, she was stuck in traffic (RockNVoll, I almost needed an ark to get to work it was raining so hard), and didn't get in until 8:30. I told her I needed a few minutes with her.
I think she was expecting me to go in and bitch about the one woman I have issues with, and looked like I knocked the wind out of her when I said I was leaving. I didn't give her many details. She turned it into an impromptu exit interview and asked if any issues there contributed to my leaving. I was professional and somewhat vague, and she turned it into, "So, other people who left had these issues, was that the same for you?" She said she'd break the news to the CEO, who would probably grill her on the situation. I fully expected him to corner me at some point and ask what was up.
I wanted to tell my co-worker who shares my role, but she didn't get in until 11 and then we had a 2-hour training. I finally told her after lunch and she looked like she was going to be sick. She disappeared for a while, and told me she wasn't surprised. I'm the 4th person in my role in the last 2 years. She also said she fully expected the company to try and find a way for me to stay, including offering me a WAH position themselves. Um, too late suckers, I've signed an acceptance letter.
Two other issues blew up for my boss and senior management, so the rest of the day was a lot of closed door meetings and (IMO) poorly handled decisions on how to handle some big problems they're having throughout the company. Just more reason for me to get the hell out of Dodge while I can.
I'm slowly sharing the news with co-workers, and most are jealous
Yay! Good for you. Sounds like your leaving might prompt them to make some improvements, good for the next person.
This sounds a lot like when I quit my last job. I was there for 6 months, hated it, quit 2 months after a coworker in the same role did. Also lots of turnover. I ended up having meetings with my boss's boss and the company CEO, both tried to convince me to stay by promising change. When they realized they couldn't get me to stay, they asked for honest feedback to try to fix things for the next person. I have a friend who is still there and it doesn't sound like anything has really changed. I feel bad for him, I have no idea why he stays.
