Ollie has been in the hospital since last Tuesday. He had a fever and was having trouble breathing. It turns out that he has a bacterial blood infection (Ecoli), which has exacerbated his heart failure. He was in the NICU the first night, because he was so fragile when he was admitted. He is now in inpatient pediatrics.
They have him on some new meds for his heart and they are working well. For the infection, he has been on IV antibiotics since he was admitted. They had told us it would be a seven day course and he would be discharged yesterday. But his inflammation numbers are still high, so they are keeping him another 3 to 7 days. No!
They also did a kidney ultrasound and noticed a possible abnormality, so we have to follow up with a urologist. Poor kid has more doctors than me and H combined.
When he is discharged, our home health nurse will have to increase her visits from once a week to every other day, so that she can closely monitor his blood pressure (he is in a high blood pressure medicine, to help his heart not work as hard, but it can lower his blood pressure too low).
On the positive side, I have had the time to power through the entire series of Gilmore Girls.
How frustrating. I'm so sorry you guys are dealing with all these issues. Sending lots of good thoughts his way for improving numbers so he can go home soon.
