So we are attempting to take our teeny tiny chihuahua camping this weekend for the first time. I mean teeny... here's a PIP to elaborate
Anyone have advice on camping with dogs in general? She absolutely loves car rides (to the point that she squeals in excitement the whole time, it's gonna be a fun 2 hour drive to the lake) so I'm not worried about getting there. We will bring her food, a couple portable water bowls, lots of extra water and her crate. It's going to be pretty warm so she shouldn't be cold at night. Anyone camped with their pup and have any insights to share? I think she'll do great but I'm a little nervous since this is her first trip.
That said, I cannot wait to see a whole string of old dudes in flannel shirts with hunting dogs sitting out on the fishing dock... then DH and his chihuahua!

My brother would bring his dogs camping all the time. He had a metal pop up pen he'd keep them in if they got out of hand. They usually slept in the tent or car with him. Only time we were really worries as when we were near rivers, then they had to wear their life jackets, because Alaska rivers aren't very forgiving.
leash/tether/etc: depending on his recall, make sure you have a tether for him at camp. when we're car camping, we always bring a tether, but don't bother when backpacking because he has great recall and stays right with us.
oh my word Emy, can Link and Coco be puppy friends? He is the cutest thing ever!!!
Thank you for the food bowl reqs. I may make a quick stop at REI later. We are car camping and will definitely have her tethered. She is great with being tethered. She usually has good recall with us, but in an unfamiliar setting I worry she may panic if she gets startled or try to chase another dog, so she will be tethered if we aren't walking her or holding her.
i've never gone camping withOUT a dog! *that* just seems weird to me!
my dogs are pretty low-maintenance..we always bring canned dog food, bc they beg (and receive) so many scraps from our friends that they don't want to eat dry food.
i also always bring glow sticks to tie onto their collar for night time. i bet coco could use the bracelets around her neck. those are 15 for $1 at michaels..so super cheap......oh wait..you're tying her up, so nvm. i don't think you'll need anything special..but we sleep with the dogs..keeps everyone warmer.
