DD (5.5 mo old) is showing all the signs of teething--and last night she woke up screaming several times, which is very unusual. She typically has 1-2 nighttime wake-ups and they don't usually involve screaming. We gave her some tylenol overnight (and we're counting down the days until she can have ibuprofen, which works so much better!), and she managed to get some sleep, but she was up from 4:30-6:30am whimpering. Poor baby. I feel like a zombie today, and I have to seem smart at work.
So I know that some symptoms of teething can start months before the first tooth. But once your kid reached the swollen gums, drooling, lack of sleep, hands to the face, pain, and screaming phase of teething, how long did it last?
Yup, we're here too. His drool is out of control and he wants to put everything in his mouth. Yesterday he screamed and fussed during the day and his cheeks are always rosy now too. I hope it shows up soon for all our sakes. I can't feel any bumps along the gums though.

I thought the rosy cheeks were because of the cold weather, but now I'm thinking it's teething.
Also, I have no idea how people manage to look at their baby's gums. Every time I try to look, she shoves her tongue in the way or tries to bite my finger. I don't think I can feel bumps yet either, but the gums are definitely red and swollen and flattening out on top, which is apparently another sign of eminent teeth.
At 5.5 months I would call the pedi and ask about ibuprofen. Mine said it was fine a bit early because there were no health complications and he hit the weight range. I did it after another mmmer told me too...haha..and I was so glad I did it. Works better than Tylenol on teeth for sure.
With dd she got teeth pretty instantly after the signs. Within a day or two. With ds the kid is 9 months old and has had the same 2 teeth since 5 months and his signs come and go about every other day. He is slow apparently in the teeth dept.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely call and ask! She's 10 days from being 6 months old, and somewhere around 14-15 pounds, so hopefully we'll get the okay to use ibuprofen.

G's cheeks have been red, too! I forgot this could be related to teething! We also have so much drool and everything goes in the mouth. We've used hylands teething tabs twice but haven't noticed them helping significantly which made me think we still have a while to go.
Also, am I the only one who's sort of sad about teeth coming in? I feel like no teeth is such a new baby thing and that he's going to look so different with teeth. I know 5 months is early to start pulling the "my baaaaaby" card, but it really has flown by.

This has been happening on and off for months. D still has no teeth.

Whaa don't tell me that! Even though I know, logically, that after the first tooth there will be many other teeth to come.
And pinotgrig, I was thinking the same thing today. I used to find toothless gummy baby grins a little creepy, but I've become quite attached to MY toothless baby's gummy grin.

My 10 month old has a mouthful of teeth already (10th tooth just popped through) and it is a little sad to lose the gummy smile, but I can tell you that the little toothy grins are just as heart-melting and precious. It all goes so fast any way that you hardly have time to miss it before the next thing is happening.
smock The only symptom that started long before DD's tooth came in was drooling. Once she started chewing on here fingers/everything in sight I think it was only a week until the tooth popped through. Definitely by the time I realized gums were swelling it was only a few days away. But it's well established that my child is a freak when it comes to teeth.
Ugh, our nanny just called and said he was back to fussing and screaming. She dosed him and he took a nap finally, but I feel so bad for the little guy. My teeth started coming in when I was 4 months old so looks like he's taking after me in this respect. Sorry dude. Maybe he'll get my wit to make up for it?

Ds would get a bunch of teeth in at a time. The infant pain killer became a staple in my house. It would be a few weeks for him once he got to the point of pain and drooling
