They all get me. But this one hits really close to home. We still have friends that go there. My stepbrother just left there 1 year ago. Just horrible.

I just feel all of these things are "you reap what you sow" anymore. Everyone is sad, everyone is scared, most of Florida would probably still vote for any lunatic to be able to buy a rifle no questions asked in Walmart, along with a bunker full of ammo. No one wants to pay for universal comprehensive healthcare that includes mental health screenings and treatment.
So what can you do, really? Because we have kind of proven we give no fucks when push comes to shove.

I know, I am sure it's "too soon". Whatever.
I seriously can't even figure out how to respond to the immense insensitivity in this post. So basically, we asked for it? Seriously?

Do I think you, or FSU, or students, or anyone "asks" for it?
No.
Do I think as a society we are epic failures because we refuse to take responsible measures to prevent it? Absolutely. I think we've reached a point where the outrage rings really hollow when we aren't willing to make serious societal changes to prevent tragedies like this.
We aren't toddlers, we shouldn't need to be told 100s and 100s of times. We've seen this shit happen enough and have refused to do anything to prevent it. At some point, it is just insanity.

So, the 48% of us who got outvoted have no right to be outraged?

Of course you have a right to be outraged. But, well, now what? I don't have the answers, and I have a much much wider definition of "gun nut" than most in this country. I think the left should stop pussy footing around the issue and just say "Listen if you want to walk into a store a buy a gun with no waiting period or background check you are a fucking moron of epic proportions who shouldn't even be allowed to drive, let alone own a gun".
But Murica. Guns 4-eva, and no universal healthcare because you know Obama and death panels.
So we reap what we sow -- it all outrages me. But it's reached a point where we pretty much know how and why people do this stuff -- there usually aren't a ton of questions. So now what? Everyone gets all worked up about the shooter, but really, we could stop this if we felt the personal sacrifices were worth it, you know?
Trust me, we all get to be outraged. I'm outraged for sure.

Yeah, I'm just gonna agree with your first post that it's too soon for your political platforming. FWIW, I want stricter gun laws and better health care, but see no need to shout "well, this is what you get!" while the wound is still fresh.

I guess I consider that reaping what you sow though. By the time it's not "too soon" we move on. It happens every time.
DH's cousin is an FSU freshman and witnessed the cops kill the shooter. He is so traumatized and hoping to come home for break early.
Ugh, that's terrible. I hope he can get home quickly. I'm sure that the school will be providing counseling services as well, and he should take advantage of that.
