If you don't own one and you have cats, get one. They are a fortune, I admit, but after two weeks of using a regular box, I realize we've saved a fortune in litter over the years to make up for it.
Anyways, ours stopped working correctly after a few years of use, we sent it back, and they fixed it all up super quickly for only $130 including shipping. Again, a bit pricey, but better than buying new. And any time I've had issues or questions, their customer service has been amazingly prompt and responsive.
I just wish all companies could operate like this.
We've had one for seven years and I tell everyone how wonderful they are! They contain the smell way better, they definitely help keep litter costs down, and we have had amazing experiences with their customer service as well.
The main reason is never ever ever having to scoop shit.
Cats are never stepping on their old feces. They always have a clean(ish...some stuff can stick to the sides so you do have to do a periodical cleaning) box to go into.
You don't need liners or anything. You just stick a regular garbage bag in, which takes .5 seconds, then take it out. Cuts way back on the amount of litter you use cause its all cycled through right away.

Oh man, I need this. I am always wishing I had that cat genie thing, but that has to be hooked up to water which is tough when you rent and move around periodically.
How often do you change the bag? Does it stink? Thxs
Weekly with two cats, though biweekly would be better. It doesn't stink cause I cover the bottom tray in arm and hammer cat deodorizer (which I probably wouldn't have to do if I didn't use hippie cat litter). As long as you make sure to keep a filter (they sell replacements which I barely need to replace) in the bottom tray, its really good at keeping odors in. Take the filter out, the stink escapes. You still have to face the shit at some point, but it's as minimal as possible.

That item looks dreamy. I ahve a couple of questions, though. Do you actually change the litter, or do you just keep adding to it to replace the clumps that get dumped? Do you have to add litter daily? If you have to actually remove old litter (I'm talking about the actual litter, not the clumps, which get sifted, blah blah blah, I'm clear on that part) and replace it, how often do you do that? And how much do you use when you fill it? That's probably affected by the number and size of your cat(s), I realize.
