Engagement: Let me start by saying our engagement was a total mess! We were young and stupid and had no idea what we were doing, lol, but I wouldn't change a thing.
We were all of 19 when we got engaged. We'd been together since we were 16 and knew we wanted to be married, but not until we'd graduated college. During spring break freshmen year, he sat down with my parents and asked both their permission to marry me "after college." My parents were skeptical since we were so young, but said yes.
He didn't actually ask ME until a month later. I got a call from my mom about a week after him asking them to see if he'd asked yet, and when I told her no, she said, "If he asks you to go for a walk with him, GO!" lol So when he asked me a few days later, I went. He was going to ask me on campus, at this beautiful little gazebo, but on our way there, in perfect Boone fashion, the sky opened up and it started POURING. I was SO upset because I'd really taken a lot of care in getting ready. He took me back to his dorm and oh-so-romantically made me dinner (a little skillet meal) in the shared common kitchen. Poor H was trying to salvage the moment, but I was pissy through dinner. It had already been a month after he'd asked my parents and the rain and everything totally bummed me out.
So he ended up packing us a few blankets and we took the public bus to the condo his parents had just bought, literally a week before, on the other side of town. There wasn't running water or electric or any furniture. It was kind of romantic, actually. We were both so bummed with the night we just went to sleep.
In the morning, he woke me up and asked what my plans were for the rest of my life. Still pretty sleepy, I mumbled on about graduating college, going to grad school, becoming a counselor, on and on. He patiently waited, then said, "Well, there's one thing you didn't mention... will you be my wife?" Still not quite awake, I said, "I suppose I could do that, too..." It took another minute of him not saying anything for me to realize what he was doing!
Here's a pic of the ring he'd picked out. Not traditional, but I adore it and still wear it every day.
Random not-so-funny fact: After we finally were engaged, we had lunch with our parents and siblings in Chili's. The first thing my MIL said as we were sitting down was, "I thought he was going to tell us she was pregnant!" She said it rather loudly and I was completely embarrassed. It took me a long time to realize she's not malicious, just totally clueless.
Wedding: We had a 3 year engagement, so the wedding plans were here, there, and everywhere. We started with a number of 30, but when family started weighing in with who should be invited, the numbers quickly got out of hand and we had a list of 200.
H and I were determined to prove we were adults and pay for the whole thing 100% ourselves, and on a college student budget, 200 just wasn't going to happen. I finally put my foot down and we planned the most perfect little ceremony and dinner for 10 - our parents, our siblings, and us.
We had it at a conference center, on an upper patio overlooking our school and the Appalachian mountains. My sister did my makeup, my mom did my hair and pictures, and I did everything else.
The night itself was practically perfect. The ceremony was performed by a former psychology professor of mine, with vows that H and I had written. We had a beautiful candle-lighting ceremony, and a brief witness signing before sitting down to dinner. Everyone said a little something, and we toasted with a simple strawberry lemonade drink (non-alcoholic). We had our special dances and a few song dedications, done by a playlist on my laptop which was hooked up to speakers, followed by sparklers.
It was a perfect, fun, simple and easy-going wedding.
Family: My H has 2 parents and 2 younger brothers, 21 and 23, who just finished college. I have 2 parents and a younger sister, 20. They all live on the east coast.
Our family consists of H and me, and our beloved Augi.
If you were given $5M tax free, what would you do with it? I'd love to say I'd donate it, but I'd travel.
Who would you rather die first, you or H? Me. I couldn't handle if H died before me.
Death row meal? Cinnamon chili - an old family recipe, a fancy cheese platter and our wedding cake.
If you had to switch places with a Nextie for a day who would it be? UW, because I think she's totally awesome.
Ever been arrested? Bonus points if you tell us why. Nope, I'm embarrassingly squeaky.
Who's more outgoing, you or H? Funnier? I'm more outgoing, but H is definitely funnier. I've got a corny, somewhat bizarre sense of humor.
Last time you cried? What was it over? A little over a month ago, over realizing I'd gained 120lb in 5 years. I've lost 15lb since then.
Who's going to win the healthy challenge? Take 2nd? I really don't know; it seems like everyone really wants it!
Dream car? I have my dream car... I wanted an orange Honda. I didn't care about anything else.
Between a full time chef, stylist, driver, nanny, personal trainer, masseuse or errand runner (who only did those jobs) which one (you only get 1!) would you pick and why? Definitely a masseuse. It's not practical by any means, but I would LOVE having one.
When will you start TTGKTFU? I won't.
How many kid(s) do you want? 0
If you had to pick a Nextie sister wife who would it be? Hmm, probably Picks. She's smart and funny and I have a feeling if anything went down, I'd want her on my side.
Ideal place to live in the US? A year ago, I would've said Charleston. Now, I think here.
Ideal place to live abroad? I have no idea... I've only been to Japan. I need to travel more!
All time favorite vacation spot? H & I loved San Diego, but then again, there are so many more places we want to go.
Least favorite vacation spot? I hated Savannah, GA.
If money were no object and it were feasible, would you go to the moon? Probably not.
Obama, Romney or are you leaving for Canada? I vote Canada. Not that I'm against either, but I'm not really for either.
Realistic job you would be really good at? Anything helping people.
Realistic job you would be really bad at? Anything heavy in math.
Yes, and it was SO much fun! We spent 3 days at Busch Gardens Tampa, 3 days at Universal Islands of Adventure, and 4 days at Daytona Beach. We were also going to do Six Flags over GA, but they were closed during the week since the schools were open again.
How did you arrive at the decision to not have children? Sorry, I realize this is incredibly personal, but I'm always curious how other people get to this point. You can opt out of this question if you'd like.

I don't mind at all. The short version, I'm not good with kids and can't imagine children of my own in my life. You may not remember, but I'm the one you recommended "Two Is Enough" to a while back. It helped more than you'll ever know.

I totally remember. That book was a huge turning point for me too. I'm so glad that it helped you as well.
How old were you when you got married? H? How old are you now? H? Where were you raised?
H & I were both 22 when we got married. We're 24 now. I lived in FL til I was 15. H lived in NH til he was 16. Our families moved to NC the same summer, 4 days apart.
