Wait you put your Christmas tree up already? Sigh.
I'm putting it up today. H and T are out of town until after thanksgiving and I am leaving Tuesday. We won't be back until the Monday after thanksgiving, so I'm putting it up while the house is quiet and kidless.

I must do Christmas wrong because I thought putting up the tree together is part of the fun, especially with kids?
Perhaps when she will remember doing so. Three? Nope, not worth the stress for me.
OMG. H did this last year. He has mild OCD so it took like, 4 hours because it had to be perfect. He insisted on pulling out all of the lights, then restringing them. I told him to just add lights but he refused. lol. I was like.....okay! Have fun with that!

Dude, no. The tree magically appears during naptime.
Oh, we did this when David was one. It was night time, we turned off all of the lights and lit up the tree so when he walked out it looked beautiful. It really was magical!
My parents always put up the fake tree while we were sleeping and then we helped with the ornaments and stuff. It was perfect because even as an adult, putting up the actual tree is fucking terrible.
FINE! I will be the lone weirdo LOL
I love putting up the tree. We make a fire, put on a cheesy Christmas movie, have nog (usually spiked) and spend all afternoon doing the tree and village.
And I apparently mistakenly) excited to do this with our kids in the future too
I love putting up the tree, too. We also put on music, drink wine, it's fun. It never became fun with David until last year when he can actually help and not just want to help. lol. It's a total PITA when they want to help but are pretty much useless and break stuff.

This is us too. H supervises though. He doesn't do any actual work besides assisting with carrying it in from the garage.

ha! We do the tree together but H does the village alone because he is a tad obsessive about how it gets arranged. I just observe and the later move small things around to mess with him haha.
He has done it for forever though, I never even knew about Christmas villages being a thing until I met him and his family.
Oh I love the little villages! We don't have one I don't know where I would fit it. Do you have one that lights up?

Ugh, last year our pre-lit tree had a couple of sections that were all messed up, so before we put it up, we decided to cut all of the lights off and string it with lights the old-fashioned way. My hands were a scratched mess for weeks after cutting all those lights off. It was horrible. I wish we had just bought a new tree instead!

I'll join you in the weirdo group, haha. We take the kids out on the sled to cut down a tree, then they help it up and decorate it. So much fun.
I like to get the tree up, fluffed, lights, and ribbon on before my 4yr old gets involved. And stringing lights is evil. I've lost count of how many years we test the lights and they are fine, then a section is out once they're on the tree. And I wear long sleeves with thin leather gloves to keep from getting scratched.

But the kids will get all the decorations out of the boxes one at a time. Then play with them. Put two or three on the lowest branches. Ask if you are done yet. Then say they want to make gingerbread men. Then go watch tv and leave you with your decorations scattered all over the floor (and maybe broken) that you have to pick up before putting them up. Not that we just did that yesterday or anything. Ugh.
I'm just going to break this news to you now: You think that doing things with your toddler will be so FUN and MAGICAL, but in reality it is a lot of "Noooooo, I want to put the ornament on the dog's ear!!!!! NOOOOOOOO!" *Smashes ornament on dog's head, throws self on floor and possibly poops*
Eh, my SILs both have a lot of kids and have always out up their trees as a family, even with multiple toddlers, and have fun with it. Purely magical? No. But I don't think it's completely impossible and horrendous
Ok I will stop ruining life for you. No I won't. Listen I do it with my kids every year. But I want to get drunk and or kill myself about half way there. It is not fun. But THEY love it.
I've had my kids participate in the ornament hanging since they were old enough to walk. Of course It's usually an 18" radius of layers of ornaments on top of ornaments and the spacing is totally off but I just wait until their in bed to fix it. I love doing the tree with my kids.
Ps: OP, I'd just throw another string of lights in that area. Way easier.
It'll be all fun and games until baby Jesus is chucked across the room breaking him in half and your kid pulls the whole tree down by pulling on the light strand "trying" to help.
Not that I'm still irritated about Christmas 2013 or anything :/
